<p>As I've said before, Narayan Murthy's son couldn't get into IIT and used Cornell as a safety. If you're a Princeton/Harvard candidate, as such and astrix are, Cornell is a safety for you (esp if you don't need aid, like Murthy's son).</p>

<p>Technically, you become a Princeton/Harvard candidate just by applying to those places. I have applied to both, been deferred by one and will, in all probability be rejected by both in another 3 weeks. Would Cornell still be a safety for me? Somehow, I think not.</p>
