I have a exam in 32 hrs

Shikhar, wud u mind calling up Dhl and ask for merc's decision?

phone no is 1600111345 (toll free India no)

Could have, Would have and Should Have (but I aint callin..:))

As an international applicant to MIT (RD) I believe that no matter what decision we receive, we should keep our head held high. Acceptance or rejection, DHL or envelope whatever the content is there will be one lesson common in both the decisions and that is the learning experience on differences between controllable and non-controllable.

As 17-18 year old schoolkids, we can control how much we study, we can control the typos on our essays, we can control the ECs that we participate in, and we can control a lot of stuff that goes in the application. BUT, what we cannot control is the # of internationals that MIT accept, we cannot control if the admission officer was more impressed by somebody else, we cannot control what the other applicants submitted, and finally we cannot control the final outcome.

At the end of the day if nothing else, what I will have is that I will never look back and say that I could have, would have and should have applied to MIT, because dammit - I surely did and I am glad about it...

Good luck guys...keep rockin...n never say never...

Excellent post, adi. This will go on my upcoming website if you don't mind.

Better pay him for copyrighted material :)

Anyway guys if you are rejected ( a big IF) just think that there was someone more deserving of admission . Believe in yourself ( just as adi said) and think you will go to someplace which wants to have you as much as you want to be in it.

Best of luck to everyone and remember name isn't as important in the US as it is in India. What you do with any education is what counts in the end.

merc - sure u can use it as long as u correct all the gramatical errors (non-controllable/uncontrollable, impressed by/impressed WITH...) :)

reasons that i wont get into MIT
1. Typos and gramatical errors...

Hey what's up guys, fellow Indian here.

I usually surf the Brown and College Admissions board but I just spotted this one today and thought about the possibilities of an Indian population here. Well, needless to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Can't believe there are so many of you from India congregating here about US admissions, that's awesome.

I'd like to introduce myself, name's Varun and I was born in Bombay. Grew up in California which is where I'm at right now nervously anticipating some decisions.

Anyway, I'll probably stop by here every once in a while, hopefully I'll get to meet one of you if we end up in the same place. Good luck with your admissions....

akash, juz because u dun have a dhl package at delhi YET does not mean it may not arrive today or tmr rite?
