Indiana or Syracuse?

Hey guys, so I'm kind of caught between these two schools. I'm a bus. admin. marketing major and coming from California so I'm out of state for both, though that doesn't matter for Syracuse. Indiana is ranked well ahead of Syracuse for business, but I've heard Syracuse has great ties and career placement. I was also thinking about duel majoring in Syracuse's Newhouse for for advertising. Considering campus life, academics, social scene, surrounding area, career opportunities, and assuming money isn't an issue, which school would you choose?

Oz: great idea about doubling in Newhouse, but you can’t just automatically do that; it’s an admission program…and everyone and their brother applies to “transfer” or do the “double” after freshman year…applicants are chosen after freshman year purely on GPA (from the top down) until spots are filled…

In your case, I think Kelley is a better choice: bird in the hand…

Indiana and Kelly

I appreciate you’re input guys. Syracuse was my #1 choice for a while but IU accepted me months before it did and when I went to visit I was blown away by the campus and everything it has to offer. I should also mention that I’m going to pursue a career in advertising.

Rodney, I’m actually a transfer so I’m not even sure I would be able to try to duel major since I didn’t originally indicate it on my application. I’ve been leaning towards IU, but the idea of duel majoring in marketing/advertising from Whitman and Newhouse is very enticing to me and the only reason I haven’t committed to IU yet.

Indiana. That’s where I’m headed next year! Not for business, though, so that doesn’t really help…

Any other thoughts?

business major too. . . still having a hard time deciding where to go myself . .

IU vs. Penn State

I’d go with IU bluewing. Have you visited it before? If not, it might make your decision a little easier since it is such a gorgeous campus. Kelley was also pretty incredible.

Oz: ahhh, transfer: well, does IU have the advertising either? Have you spoken to advisors in both schools to see how to emphasize that? I guess you are planning on a marketing major in both; find out from SU if you can even take the advertising courses in Newhouse…I still think you can make it work at Kelley since you liked it when you visited…

Rodney, IU doesn’t have a specific advertising major but they offer advertising classes through different schools that focus on different elements of the subject. I’ll definitely take your advice and contact Syracuse to see what my options may be. When I think about it, I recall reading at some point that students can only try to internally transfer to Newhouse or declare a double major with the school by the end of their sophomore years. I’m not sure how that applies to transfers, but I’ll most likely have junior status if I decide to attend the school. Also, do you know how good the recruiting out of Whitman/Newhouse is, specifically to the NYC area? Thanks,

Oz.

recruiting to NYC is the selling point for both Newhouse and WHitman; huge alumni network and they hire their own…it’s probably one of the main reasons Newhouse is so competitive for admissions…I have heard Whitman is the same…

but Indiana has excellent connections to NYC as well; I think it really depends on which school is the better fit for you…
