I know three students that go there - a music ed major (senior), ed major (sophomore) and freshman undeclared at the honors college. All are happy. The honors college sounds really nice and unique. http://www.iup.edu/honors/ It's featured in one of those very fat college books about cool colleges. Like all PA state schools the majority of the students are PA residents and out there, many are from Northwestern PA. I think it's the biggest of the state schools.

I was very impressed by the honors college when we visited but it is not for everyone. They have their own dorm with classrooms for seminars in the dorm. These kids tend to bond and stay together through 4 years. Honors offices and honors director in same building as dorm and the staff is very involved with the kids and it is a very nurturing program. They have an excellent track record of getting students into professional/grad schools. Biggest problem is they don't seem very well integrated into the rest of the University. However, when one of the Honors students is involved in an activity (like on a sports team), over half the honors college will show up for that event. Lots and lots of perks (money for research, early registration, etc).

Found the professors and even the store employees very approachable and very helpful. Town is rather small and not much to do there but a couple of great restaurants. The library was disappointing. Nice enough campus otherwise.

I just read an article saying that the co-creator of YouTube who just made millions selling that creation to Google is an Indiana U of Penn graduate. Maybe he'll share some of his wealth with his alma mater!
