Indiana University and Ohio State

Hey, I really want to go to either IU or Ohio State. Im a junior in highschool and have a 3.6 weighted gpa and a 29 on my act(which I want to retake to get a 31). I have quite a few extra curricular, and am hoping to get at 1-2 letters of recommendation from teachers. What are my chances of getting into either of these schools. I want to go in for business, and I know that it will be hard with my grades and scores. Would it be better for me to apply undecided into Indiana or just put down business? Is it possible for me to do business through just the normal Indiana University instead of the Kelley School of business or would I have to go through Kelley (not really sure how that works).

I would really like to get into Indiana, but I also am interested in Ohio State, is it possible for me to get into either of these schools for business?

Yes, you are fine at both of those schools. I’m about the same as you actually and I’ve already been admitted to IU, still waiting on tOSU, but I’m guessing you’ll be fine at Fisher. IU lets you in direct admit with a 3.7, so you could apply still and maybe not get in but then you would probably have a good chance at petitioning! That’s my plan at the moment if they don’t accept me directly - Kelley generally notifies much later than the school itself.

OSU Fisher: Low match/Match
IU Kelley (petition): Low match/Match
IU (non-Kelley): Safety

@tiger453 Both Indiana’s Kelley and Ohio State’s Fisher School of Business are great programs. However, Indiana U’s Kelley School of Business has more stringent requirements for direct admit freshman applicants. You need a composite ACT score of 30 or SAT Math and Critical Reading (CR) score of 1270. The Kelley School of Business accepts superscores for both the ACT and SAT.And you need a cumulative GPA of 3.7 (I believe this is unweighted). And indicate you want business on your application. In contrast, for Ohio State’s Fischer School of Business you need EITHER 29 ACT or greater than 1300 on SAT Math & CR sections OR (25 ACT or 1150 on SAT Math & CR sections AND top 20% class rank). The critical difference is that Indiana Kelley will Superscore your scores whereas Ohio State requires the best scores in a SINGLE sitting. Ohio State does not superscore. I think Kelley is best for Finance and is more prestigious overall–it is ranked 8th (USNewsWorld Report) in country and has more recruiters, especially from the Northeast. However, Fisher School of Business also has a strong business program, is ranked #20 in country and has a wide range of business majors to choose from. KEY QUESTION–Are you OOS and can you AFFORD both schools–without scholarships they are pricey, particularly Kelley, which is $34,000 tuition for 2014-15 versus Fisher at $28,000 tuition, plus room and board, books, personal expenses. IU has scholarships ranging from $1,000 up to $11,000 maximum. But its not clear how they give them out. In contrast, Ohio State is clear–it has the National Buckeye scholarship of $12,000 plus additional scholarships–check out Money Matters and Scholarships on Ohio State’s website. You are likely to get a lot more money from Ohio State if you are OOS.
But in order to qualify for scholarships at both schools you need to submit your application by the priority deadline of NOVEMBER 1. That’s a key thing to remember.

Ok thank you all so much!!! This was very helpful! I thought that kelly would be a reach with my scores, so its really good to know that I have a chance

@tiger453 I think the 3.7 gpa is actually weighted not unweighted. So if you have a 3.6 gpa you are extremely close to the requirement. IU also has a petition process so if you are close and don’t get direct admit initially you can petition for direct admit.
