Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Can someone clarify - I just saw a few posts mentioning a Kelley review request. Is this step required? I don’t recall being told anything about this step on our tour. DD24 applied in early October, she setup her portal, but didn’t mention this step.

What is your D’s intended major at IU? As I understand it, some (all?) majors have a direct admit pathway. You may qualify for that major as a direct admit based solely on stats (i.e., a certain gpa and SAT/ACT score). If you do not have the stats to be automatically admitted (or you applied test optional) then you would need to submit a review request to be considered for direct admission. Of course, you can always enter IU as Exploratory (which is what IU calls undecided) and go into a major after a year on campus. But if you want to be in the major when you start at IU, then confirm you meet the stats, and if not, submit a review request. Review requests can be submitted before you hear back on admission. I think the review request deadline is 2/1, but it is always best to submit as soon as possible.

Thank you! So if she indicated business and meets the direct admit stats (she does), then no need to submit the review request.

Correct!

The change in portal generally means the actual school within the University has begun reviewing your application, it’s being prepared for review or may have even completed review - but the University must admit first. The Portal will say “admitted”. Anything else is reading too much into the Portal which is just a software program where a change triggers access to a specific unit in admissions in the larger schools like Arts & Sciences. Kelley has its own admissions game with going out of the portal to request review so you won’t see that same kind of change to the major. I wouldn’t get any hopes up that this means relatively soon admissions decision, but you never know. I don’t really know when the first batch will happen but I’ve been told mid-late November.

What kind of change can I expect to see in the portal if my application is being reviewed?

Will I need to send anything else here? Sorry for asking, but I do not have a counsellor right now, so I really want to cross-check whether or not I am done with all the prerequisites…

Looks like you have check marks for everything under “complete application,” so your application is complete!

Where do you see this list in the portal? We’re not seeing this page in the portal. Are you using One IU to access?

I navigated here

Thanks, but still not sure how you got to this page.

It looks like this is an international application portal. US citizens are not required to input their passport information as part of the application process.

Yeah this isn’t what my D sees. She goes through the my IU login.
We have a white landing page with blue bars at the left. That says “status” - applicant. When you click view, it shows a new page with a couple lines. That includes term, career, program, plan, app number and app date. Super basic. The portal change I referred to was a change in “program” from ‘pre arts and sciences’ to ‘ arts &sciences’ which made me hopeful she might be a direct admit.

did any other kids in NY area. Receive an invite to a reception and tickets to a IU basketball game? Trying to figure out if all applicants in area got this

Ah, makes sense

We did and are going Nov 18th

Has anyone here gotten a result yet?

I am not aware of anyone receiving an admissions decision as of the date of this post. I would not get caught up in when people receive decisions or what happened in prior years. It makes a lot of sense that IU will try to get most of their Early Action decisions out by December 15 so people can apply regular decision elsewhere denied and try to avoid others applying who are admitted. It’s probable they will send an earlier admissions batch in November particularly to the auto direct admit applicants and the high stat in-state kids and probably some high stat out of state applications. Colleges are about yield rate. Nothing about providing decisions regularly in November improves yield rate, only wear and tear on admissions and applicants.

“Decisions are released on a rolling basis however, if you applied by the November 1 early action deadline, you can expect a response no later than January 15.”

This was the response to a mail I sent to their office.
