I was wondering...why is Indiana University Bloomington ranked so low? I definitely feel like it is very underrated.

IU is...
- good at sports (#1 in basketball)
- top 10 or 20 in business (kelley)
- offers TONS AND LOADS of different majors...very diverse
- one of the top music schools (Jacobs)
- beautiful campus
- and more...

Why is it ranked so low in the rankings???
Is it because they accept a lot of students?
IU is probably my safety school...but I find it a very solid school.

Because there are more than 20 good schools. Any university in the top 100 is pretty good with some areas of excellence.

I think midwest stigma has something to do with it. If you transplanted IUB to New York it would give NYU a run for its money.

IU, like several other public universities, is under-ranked by the USNWR. But as barrons points out, in a country with over 2,500 universities, being ranked in the top 100 is pretty good.

The fact that IU-Bloomington does not offer engineering affects its ranking. The public universities ahead of it generally do have engineering programs.

It’s a hidden gem. Especially for business majors.

Although I’m not sure basketball/campus quality are factored into rankings… lol.

Michigan is #1 in basketball. :-)

Well, at least for a week. ;-)
