Hey so Im an Illinois resident that is applying to Indiana University, and I was curious If I have a chance of getting in.
ACT: 26
GPA: Unwieghted 3.63 Weighted 3.89
Class rank: top 13 percent, so 87th percentile
Extracurriculars: National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Marching Band, Jazz Band (2 years), Tri M National Honor Society, extra concert band rehearsals with state and national performances, and Pep Band for 1 year.
Also Indiana Superscores the ACT, and I have a 27 through superscore, as of now they only have my 26, and Also I sent two letters of reccomendation. So what are my admission chances? And do I have any chances at scholarships (academic or anything?). And also, I am white but I am a monority because im totally gay :) I hear IU is very accepting and open with gays, and would me being a sexuality minority help with scholarships??

Hi Evan, I will try to answer as many of the questions as I can. But first, let me tell you about myself. I am a college senior at one of the Indiana University campuses. My ACT score was a 25, 1600 SAT which is average, my HS GPA was a full quarter point below your weighted GPA, and I was in the top 1/4 of my class. I was in no honor societies, however, I was in the school band for 5 years plus consistently made the honor roll. I would hope with your excellent scores and extracurricular activities that admission would be a no-brainer :-h If it helps, I was able to (and have) attend Ball State University and two IU campuses with my scores. Scholarships are a different story though.

From my experience, it is merit and financial need that make up the majority of scholarships, yet I have seen scholarships for freshman and transfer students only. I would very seriously doubt being gay would help you get scholarships because as I have said most of the scholarships are merit based. If you could I would like to know your intended major so I can give you a definite green or red light on whether admission is all but guaranteed. And if you have any questions regarding my major, credit loads, etc. I will be happy to help.

Hi! Thank you for responding! And my desired major would be a BS in chemistry, and a minor in math education! So a chem major :)

Pretty good choice of major! Yeah they might just check to see if you failed any high school science courses. I doubt that’s the case due to your exceptionally high GPA and the fact you’re in the Science National Honor Society. Even if it’s IU Bloomington you’re talking about (they have more stringent admissions standards I have heard) if you don’t get in…I will be very unpleasantly surprised.

Thanks! And yes it is Bloomington! I fell in love with the campus. So you think I have a good chance of getting into IU Bloomington??

I would give you an 90% chance of getting in. However, I would check the college’s website and then go to the page on chemistry. I found other entry requirements to get into the major. Also, you will have to make a choice between a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Check the requirements for each, there is a difference!!! That’s about all I can help you with.

Hey good news!! I took the october ACT and brought my ACT up to a 27!!! I screamed lol!!

Hey guess what! I have great news! Today I was accepted into Indiana University!!!

Congratulations! My daughter was just accepted too
