@dcolosi can you tell me about the inspire floor?
@bulldog25 I can certainly share what we learn in two weeks after our tour but the INSPIRE LLC is the LLC for the Education majors. It is housed in Spruce Hall in the Southeast Neighborhood. From what we know, it is made up of 54 students and there is a required 1 credit seminar that meets Fridays from 10-11am. So we were told when she schedules her classes we need to tell her adviser she needs to be signed up for this seminar.
She received an e-mail Friday from the program leaders so she e-mailed them back to thank them and let them know we would be there on the 3rd so they are going to have one or two of the current INSPIRE students meet us and take us back to the dorm to tour the floor and introduce her to some others.
I know you don’t necessarily have to be an education major to apply. Both her and her roommate applied and were accepted so we’ve already been told they will be rooming together. I do know Spruce is an enhanced dorm and it is a newer dorm. So it is more expensive to be there. The only thing we won’t know is what their actual room is, we were just told they both got in an would be together and assigned to the INSPIRE Floor. Her roommate is someone she met through the Schools App, not someone she already knew so we figured that helped both of them get in. I know my D is a Direct Admit, not sure if her roommate is or not.
On the FinAid report scholarships seem to be showing up. My D got the $8K in-state Provost, and the Herbert presidential Scholar $3K + extras (which is part of SSA). Also something that shows up as 1st Yr IN Scholars Award for $1000. Direct admit to CAS. Haven’t heard from IFLE/STARS but the app is still open till Mar. 10th.
DD received a financial aid package on Thursday, February 23. It did not contain any SSA money. I called the financial aid office and was told that the SSA awards would not be finalized until March and some could even run into April.
I do know that each department does it’s own SSA evaluation and the main office of scholarships has no info on the departmental or the hutton scholarships. I guess that’s why it takes so long? I hadn’t heard April before though, that’s really late.
@orwellparasiempre , we attended the session on the Hutton Honors program yesterday as part of the Red Carpet day. They said that the Hutton scholarship notifications will come out either next week (week of 2/27) or the following week.
The presenter said she didn’t know about award $$, and didn’t seem to want to know. She did say that, because of IU switching to the common app, the admissions class was the largest and most qualified ever in IU history.
@dcolosi, thanks for the info on INSPIRE. I didn’t realize that they were notifying of LLCs yet. One person told us that each LLC applications is reviewed by the respective team, not collectively by housing, so it is possible to get accepted into multiple LLCs, rather than getting into your first choice and then stopping. I think my Daughter put INSPIRE lower on her preferences, so that may affect her application or notification.
@yobub34 you’re welcome. I don’t know if all LLC’s have been notified, we just know about the INSPIRE LLC. It was high on her preference listing. She and her roommate both received the e-mail but outside of that, I don’t know of any of her other friends who are IU bound that have heard on other LLC’s. The Assistant Director was very responsive to her e-mail about visiting on Friday when we go for Red Carpet days. We were surprised to hear so soon as we thought notifications would be later this summer. We also have a reception this Wednesday for Direct Admits for the School of Education.
As for the SSA, she did get a letter yesterday from the School of Education about her award from them. That is the only thing we’ve had associated with the SSA app. We also the day before received her Financial Aid package info which is basically nothing other than the award from the Sch. of Ed. due to our EFC on the FASFA.
I called today and was told the Hutton award letters went out yesterday. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone
@bulldog25 do you know what the general statistics are for the Hutton scholarship (GPA, ACT, EC’s)?
I can view my Hutton Honors Scholarship ($6000 a year!) in the student center at one.iu. I have a 1580 SAT, am oos, and GPA probably 4.9 on a 5.0 scale, if you’re looking for stats.
My D’s Honors scholarship was also viewable online
Where can you view these online?
if you go to your one.iu.edu account and look under financial information you should see any awards
@jbass01 Look for the “Student Center” section. Their website is so confusing.
yes both places take you to the same page - 2017-18 school year and then view/accept awards
S got the $8k Provost plus acceptance into Hutton and direct admit to Kelley but no extra scholarship $ past that. Stats are 34 act, 4.4 GPA, lots of extra stuff although I think IU cares very little about the EC’s tbh lol.
If you haven’t checked the Fin Aid form in a few days, recheck. Awards are still showing up.
Received Hutton scholarship letter in the mail today for $4000.00. Awards have started rolling out.
