Hi! Does anyone know when in "early November" the Wells Scholarship finalists for the interview weekend are traditionally notified? (My daughter read "early November" as ... "it's November 2 why haven't I heard an answer yet" and is driving me crazy :-p)

Your D read “early November”???

The website clearly says:

Mid-November: Approximately 50 finalists are selected for interviews; all nominees are notified of their status.

?? Didn’t she look at the website before whining?

2 years ago, I was notified on November 9 via USPS (and the text of the letter was sent in email on Nov 14).

Thanks purpleacorn, that gives her a ballpark around when to look. Are you at Indiana now? What has your experience been? My D is OOS at a school that has not had anyone go to this interview before (she went through the office of admission nomination process).

I went though the office of admissions nominations process as well as an OOS applicant. I was advanced to finalist status and attended the finalist weekend, and was offered the Wells. I ultimately chose not to accept it (though the decision was difficult) in favor of a more liberal arts type experience.

I will say, having the knowledge of the full-ride in December was extremely helpful in managing stress during the admissions process, and Indiana + Hutton Honors + the Wells did a fantastic job of answering questions and possibe academic paths at IU throughout the spring semester.

Thanks so much for the info. Sounds like you had a great experience with the Wells program, despite ending up elsewhere - hope you are having a wonderful time where you ended up!!!

We will keep our fingers crossed for good news in a few weeks! I know it is an uber competitive program, so my D is not holding her breath, but is still very excited at the possibilities. I won’t tell her 11/9 b/c I think she might not sleep for a week if it is a little later - ha! Thanks again!!

My daughter is also a candidate for the Wells. Thanks for the info on the date, purpleacorn! That means we could be hearing during this coming week!

Fingers crossed for both of our girls, Palmra! I know for my daughter it will be nice to find out one way or the other - it is the waiting that is the hard part!! :->

@kidsrexpensive-- My daughter is a nominee. The nominees are notified of being offered interviews on November 17. I am unsure how they are notified----but my information says November 17. I am curious—are any of you parents whose children are nominees alumni yourselves?

My daughter is also an OOS nominee. I am not an alumnus. For notifications, the email to my D said they are “working towards informing you the week of November 17” so I’m not sure that November 17 is a hard date. I imagine the notification comes by email, but I don’t know for sure. D is expecting to NOT make finalist.

Yup - my D got the same info since my original posting. No - not an alumnus. My daughter is operating on the rubric: “I know the competition is so stiff that I probably won’t get asked… but wouldn’t it be nice if I did!” :-p. She is excited despite the low chances. Luck to all!!!

Where is the email sent? Is it to the personal email or the IU email? I have checked both, but haven’t seen an email talking about the 17th.

My D asked. Don’t think she got a mass email. She has another large obligation on the weekend of interviews that she will have to cancel if she is lucky enough to be asked for an interview… so is looking forward to knowing what she needs to do, one way or the other.

My daughter received her notification of finalist status today. We are in-state, and the letter was sent by USPS first class mail. I hope everyone here receives good news soon.

YEAH - Congrats to your daughter!! We are OOS… nothing in the mail today. Will look forward to results (one way or the other) on Monday, hopefully!

Did anyone from out of state get any notification today?

Congratulations to your D, DFTBA97! We are in the midwest but not in-state and D received a letter today that she is NOT a finalist. This is completely fine. Good luck to those still waiting to hear!

We are OOS. My daughter got the letter today that she has been accepted to the finalist interviews. She is very excited, but still feeling pretty realistic about all the competition / strong candidates that will be there!!

Congrats to those who advanced to interview weekend! My daughter didn’t get a letter either way today so I am wondering . . . .

Probably just mail delay. We are getting dumped upon (lots of snow) here in the Midwest! We are just in Ohio so mail didn’t have that far to go. Fingers crossed for good news for your daughter!
