Indiana University?

I've been in a bit of a panic about my GPA and ACT score as my junior year comes to an end. I have a 3.36 GPA and an ACT score of 23. I really have my heart set on going to Indiana University, as I want to eventually go to their Business School (Kelley) to major in Finance. Is my GPA not good enough? I'm taking the ACT two more times in April, one more in June, and hope to get at least in the 25-27 range. Anyone who has been accepted here want to share their GPA and ACT score and advice?

Forget your chances. Apply no matter what. Your heart is set, and this makes a big difference. Also, take the SAT because many people do better on it than the ACT.

Nevertheless, you need to apply to at least five or six other schools as back up schools. Choose some schools that are a little easier to get into. For example, did you know that the Kelley School of Business also includes the Indiana/Purdue University campus in Indianapolis? It is the same business school with the same dean. You should apply there, and if you cannot go to Bloomington as a freshman, maybe you can transfer after a year or two at Kelley-IUPUI. See their website: <a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Kelley Indianapolis”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Kelley Indianapolis;

Seriously, shoot for your dream and try again if it does not work out the first time. But also have a good back up plan.

@NROTCgrad Thanks for your advice- I will definitely start looking into their other campus as a backup! Some other schools I was looking at are:
-University of St. Thomas
-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (only because it’s in-state)
-Loyola Marymount
-Pepperdine (a reach)
-Northern Illinois University (“safety school”)

All good schools that I would happy to get into, but I can’t picture myself not going to Indiana!

Go for it! Just try to bump up that ACT and also take the SAT. Most people do better the second time taking those tests, because they are more familiar with the process. People with your ACT and GPA do get into IU, but not guaranteed, and getting into Kelley might be a little harder.

I love Bloomington. Probably my favorite college town for any state university. Very nice.

You might also look into Miami University in Ohio. It has some similarities to IU, including having a very lovely campus. Its Farmer School of Business is also well respected. I do prefer IU, but Miami is a very good choice too.

Hey Im at IU and in Kelley, majoring in accounting.

Okay this is kinda tough, but your ACT and GPA are pretty low if you wanna be a direct admit.

So you apply to IU and you get a letter saying youve been accepted (to the university, not Kelley, yet). Now your file goes to Kelley and they look at it and decide what to do.

There are 2 things they can decide.

A) You become a direct admit. The only way to do this is by having a weighted 3.7 GPA and 30 ACT (IU superscores, so they take the highest scores from each category and average it). Congrats! You’re in the business school!

B) You become a standard admit. You’re not in the kelley school of business…yet. You apply to the school during the spring and hopefully you get it.
Your gpa/act didnt qualify you to be a direct admit, but kelley sees potential in you. You have to work hard freshman year. You cannot get lower than a B- in any class, or else when you apply to the kelley school, you’ll most likely be rejected.

My Gpa/ACT-- 3.89/30

Good luck!

Wanted to update this for anyone who comes across it, I got in with a 26 ACT and 3.2 GPA. Definitely on the lower end of applicants it seems, but I spent a fair amount of time on my essay which may have helped.
