Indiana vs. Iowa

Would you go to Indiana University or the University of Iowa?

And why would you choose one school over the other?

Indiana, because it's more favored by US News, and it's not in Iowa. Iowa is an awful state. This is especially true if you're into Business. Kelley is one of the best.

Indiana

Bloomington is an awesome town. Indiana's Kelley business school is nationally ranked in the top 20 undergrad bsuiness schools every year.

Indiana, no question

Bloomington is a great town, and it is over-all more respected (in my experience)

Indiana.

I may dislike Iowa because I go to Iowa State, but if Iowa was better than Indiana, I'd tell you that. But it's not.

Although there is nothing wrong with the state of Iowa.

Iowa

Indiana may have a great business program, but Iowa's is pretty respectable too. Iowa is a better all around school than Indiana. Everyone is praising Bloomington, but Iowa City is a great college town too and it's bigger. Iowa also has 10,000 fewer undergraduates than Indiana.

It depends on what you want.

Indiana is tops for business.

Iowa is tops for creative writing...and I think some of the health sciences too?

Both are in fun little college towns.

Thanks...

I know a lot about Indiana, but not much about Iowa. So any info on Iowa?

Iowa (the school)--

I have a lot of friends at UI and my dad used to work there and I sorta grew up around it, so here's my take:

*BIG party school.
*Strong creative writing and English programs
*Excellent med school. Some of my friends in pre-med there, however, say they wish they'd gone elsewhere because the med school students get all the attention and the pre-meds are more or less hung out to dry.
*Business school is okay, but not even close to IU-Bloomington.
*Good athletics. Football is usually ranked top 20-25, the last few years have been "down" but they hang around w/ OSU and Michigan at the top of the conference in football.
*Not sure about their Greek life, some friends are in it and say it's "huge" but I know for a fact that it's nowhere near as big or popular as it is at my school (Iowa State). From what I've seen there, it's an 'average' sized Greek community.

If you want to know about the state of Iowa itself...ask away. Lived here for 16+ years (19 y/o) so I know the ins and outs :)

I guess I just want to know about the Midwest in general and how Iowa compares to other states.

So what is the typical Iowan like? I know California is known for being laid-back, but my friends who have visited the Midwest say the Midwest is on a whole other level. Is life just really slow and relaxing?

People in the midwest are typically very friendly and down-to-earth. They like to party and have fun, but you typically won't find the "party divas" or snobs. If you move there, you can expect the stanger next to you in line to say hi and make small talk.

It's a refreshing feeling. I think you'd probably find it a little bit stronger at Iowa though, which is more traditionally midwestern. (IU will have to it too, but Indiana has always had a slightly different feel than a lot of the other midwestern states...I don't really know how to explain it).
