Indians at Cornell?

I know that the percentage of Asians at Cornell is about 16%, but what about just Indians? Does anyone know?

For undergrads, the population is probably around 4-5 percent counting both Indian-Americans as well as Indians from abroad. The graduate population is higher. Bhangra is huge. And so is Holi.

I'm a white kid from Middle America, so I'll defer to others.

Huzzah for Indians heading there. I'm Sri Lankan but it's close enough. I didn't know Bhangra was big there - do they have a team?

Does Cornell have a team!?!?!?!?

The Cornell Bhangra team is the best in all of North America.

Bhangra Nation

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the people on this message board have no appreciation for how amazing a school Cornell is.

Cornell Bhangra= amazing

Seriously. What makes Cornell amazing is its size and diversity. You can find every kind of people with every kind of interest here.

You can't say the same about some LAC in the midwest that may not even have enough Indians to do Bhangra.

http://www.cornell.edu/video/details.cfm?vidID=24&display=player

Terrorists running around, flaying their arms to Godless music. What a bunch of bullcrap.

:-p

I quit bhangra suchhhhhhhh a long time ago. Are there any Indian restaurants though?

Indian restaurants are almost non-existent at Cornell. I tried Sangam Indian Cuisine in Collegetown (their lunch buffet). It was relatively cheap and passable for me.

Then again, I'm Chinese.

BTW: My friend really likes Sangam and she eats a fair amount of Indian food.

Then again, she's white.

If you want Indian food you really need to go to England or the source itself.

One of my good Indian-American friend's (now an MD-PhD student at Cornell-Weill) has his mother send me some cumin cookies for Christmas every year.

Speaking of Indians....do you know if there are many South Indians there? Or is mostly North (north, west, east, etc)?

I don't. Nor do I know how many Polish Americans there were at Cornell. Or Italian Americans. Or Irish Americans.

^^ sounds funny, but I'm not sure I get the joke. :D
Just wondering, since I'm a southy myself

@Cindy WC - and all this time I thought I was the only Sri Lankan posting on these threads :P.

You're Sri Lankan too?? Thats great! :) Are you thinking about going there?

And haha no, I definitely appreciate Cornell, I just mostly know stuff about their academics/programs, and not so much about the intramurals etc.. But hey, you learn something new everyday. I can't wait to get a chance to see them perform sometime!

Yea I applied ED and got in. Where do you stay anyway? USA or the motherland? I live in the UAE - been here pretty much my whole life.

im a sikh myself, but i have been waitlisted

Ooh lucky. I was a deferral from Early, and for Regular they gave me a guaranteed transfer - so definitely come find me once i get there in fall 09. I'm actually in the US - down in Virginia. I've been here most of my life too (and I was born here) but i've been there a couple times and I absolutely adore Sri Lanka.

I'm South Indian, doing engineering this fall at Cornell.

I didn't know Cornell had an amazing bhangra team here. Bhangra is kind of a big thing here at my school so thats really cool that we're the best at it. Cornell rocks!

if i get accepted (currently waitlisted) i'll join you guys and we'll make a great bhangra team! is anyone truly punjabi?
