"Indicate if your progression through secondary school was or will be delayed"

Hi!

A year ago I decided that upon my graduation (July 2013) I would take a gap year. I have already started my gap year and am beginning my applications process. My question to you is what should I select in the following part:

"Please indicate if your progression through secondary school was or will be delayed or interrupted in any way. Check all that apply.
did or will not graduate
did or will graduate early
did or will graduate late
did or will change secondary schools
did or will take time off
did or will take gap year
did or will receive GED
I have no interruption to report"

Thanks a lot!

If you completed high school (finished senior year) and THEN took a year off I would put no interruption.

“Did or Will Take a Gap Year” is exactly your situation. You must tick that box and you ought to explain what you did during the year at least briefly in the Additional Information section.

If you mark yes, don’t write about it in the additional info. section, there’s a required explanation field where you must do so instead. If you don’t mark yes, make sure to explain it in the additional info section.

Thanks for your reply! But i’m doubtful because, as caboose said, I decided to take the gap year after finishing high school (doing it now), so I would like to know if you consider i should tick the box that says “did or will take gap year”, even though my “progression through secondary school” was not actually delayed.

Yes, you should - that’s exactly what a gap year is.

I agree, though, that the question is badly worded. It should ask if your “progression through high school or enrollment in college” was delayed. Still, your answer should be “yes, took a gap year."

Thanks a lot! I agree with you, maybe the problem is that they phrased the question wrong.
