On Common App, you must fill in a section called, 'Current Year Courses: Please indicate title, level (AP, IB, advanced, 100-level, 200-level, etc.) and credit value of all courses you are taking this year (e.g. Honors English .5 credits , English 101 3 credits).' etc.

I am an international student and I don't understand how my previous classes can be seen as AP or any advanced class, according to the U.S. system since I didn't go to an IB school.

I can't leave that section blank so it seems. What should I do??

Thank you!

I could use some help for this section as well… I do IB, but I don’t understand the whole credit thing.

However your class will be listed on your transcript is how you should list it in this section - if you’re unsure you can always ask your guidance counselor. And if your class has no special designation - for example you’re just taking “English IV”, not “AP Literature” or whatever, then put that. If there’s no special level then don’t worry about it.

And as for the credit thing - you’d have to check with your school to see exactly how they measure it. At my HS every full year class is worth 1 credit, every semester class worth .5 credits. A credit is just a unit they use to measure how you’re progressing towards graduation. Again, at my school you have to carry 7 credits every year because you need 28 credits total to graduate. But your school might have a different system…

I have no idea if this was in any way helpful, in which case I do hope someone will be able to explain it in a way that makes sense. :)

Good luck!
