Indicating engineering on the Yale's common application page

I am an international applicant to Yale University and I am currently interested in pursuing Engineering or Physics. As Yale’s Engineering is not as well known as its other departments (is Physics well known?), I wanted to ask if I will get an edge if I put Engineering as my first major interest on the application.

Thanks.

Yale’s going to get thousands of engineering apps. And look for a level of experience and understanding. There is no stem major that gives an edge just for choosing it.

Yale’s physics undergraduate program places extremely well. Extremely well.

You won’t get an edge either way. Just put down the major that is more consistent with your application. One thing to keep in mind that there are so many different variants of the physics major at Yale, which is something that you could touch on in your application.

thanks for the info guys! will keep in mind what you said.

@IlluminatiIsReal simply selecting a major where Yale is not as strong will not give you an advantage. You can easily change your major once you getting in. Now if you are a student with a seriously impressive engineering background, i.e. major activities, projects, awards etc, applying to Yale for engineering, might give you an edge because Yale is not really able to attract and retain the tippy top engineering applicants, like it for example attracts and retains the tippy top political science applicants. But the advantage would be small anyway.
