Race/gender is self identified, or in other words you can self identify as any race or gender.
Perhaps, @CU123 , but there are consequences to self-identifying as something you’re not. I may self-identify as black for the purposes of college admission, but am pretty sure that once they saw my white self arrive on campus, I’d be kicked out.
No they could not do that, not for self identifying, they would have no basis for kicking you out.
@Massmom, we know a lovely young lady who"s much more white than black, but she identifies herself as black. Period. IMSO, even though she may “look” one race but consider herself another, that’s entirely her prerogative and frankly her business. So you would expect her to be “kicked out” after she enrolls in college? How exactly would that process unfold?
Usually a last name can denote a race of an individual. Not in all cases, but a large amount of them.
