The last NYT article details how far US colleges will bend over to get full tuition paying Chinese students, who it turns out, aren’t even qualified to do the work. While many Chinese students are legitimate (understand college level english, haven’t doctored/forged transcripts, test scores, etc…) many are not, and it seems the US colleges only find this out after they have begun their studies here.
Another point is that this only seems to be done for the Chinese students- Korean, Indian , Taiwanese (all of which send almost as many students to the US) get no such treatment, at least at the same scale.
I hope they all get deported and permanently banned from entering the US. We have enough cheaters of our own, we don’t need to import more.
The report says 85% of rich Chinese parents plan to send their kids overseas to study. 90% of these kids submit fake recommendations, 70% submit essays written by someone else, 50% submit fake transcripts, 80% use agents who use unethical practices. According to the Economist they also sell fake degrees from US and even fake Chinese universities. You can buy counterfeit anything in China, these people are completely lacking in ethics and morals, and they make us look like trusting fools.
These dishonest practices are not limited to the Chinese either. The NYT recently published an expose about an internet company in Pakistan that sells fake diplomas from fake universities that sound like famous US universities: “Columbiana University”, “Barkley University”. The company employs thousands and its founder is a local high flying businessman, was in the process of launching a new TV network when he was arrested following this expose in the NYT, just a few days ago. They found tens of thousands of blank fake college diplomas in the company’s storage.
Check out this picture of Indian parents scaling walls to help their kids cheat, it’s unbelievable:

It puts into question all applications coming from these countries, everything they submitted from LORs, ECs, awards to grades can be and most likely are all be fake. It is why many cannot handle the actual workload once they enroll, and have to cheat to pass classes. How do our universities authenticate their information in their application? I suspect many simply do not, even though they are fully aware that most of these are likely fake. They simply do not care because they just want their money, mostly to support their fat cat salaries. Many of our university administrators are complicit in this giant scam.
Sounds like cheating on the SAT is part of a larger problem, i.e., cheating on entrance exams for Chinese universities. And now the Chinese government is using drones to try to spot cheating.
A few people have been arrested.
