Hello everyone,
I recently met with an admissions counselor at one of the schools that I'm applying to for the fall 2010 semester. I will be a transfer student with junior standing. I've always felt that most academic programs I have been interested in never quite hit the mark when It came to my career goals and interest areas of specialization, leaving me trying to decide if I should double or triple major. I expressed my exasperation to this counselor who then told me about an individualized Interdisciplinary Studies Major.

Basically, you submit a course proposal to the university and select a faculty member to oversee your academic career. From what I understand, it seems a very good way to specialize or concentrate your studies to fit your career goals and to be prepared for graduate study in some particular areas of specialization. For instance, I plan on entering a graduate study program in history or historical anthropology with a specialization in European history and culture.

I'm just not completely sold on this undergraduate program. Will this give me an edge when applying to graduate schools or hinder my chances because I don't fit the mold? I feel like I'm on of those state farm insurance commercials: Are you in that place where there are too many questions and not enough answers? Haha.
