I would like to study music; however, I would like to study it within a liberal arts context, NOT a music conservatory context like that of the Jacobs School of Music. Ideally, I would be seeking something like a Bachelor of Arts in Music as opposed to a Bachelor of Music degree. Since IU only offers the B.M. degree, I was wondering if it would be possible to create an individualized major through the IMP program that would lead me down a B.A. degree path while still studying music. I don't have any intentions of creating a specialized field of music, I would just like to study a general, liberal arts path in music. Would I be able to create a B.A. in music through the IMP program?

I doubt if anybody here has the background to answer this question. Here are the steps in the process of getting approval for the major, etc.
