Indoc over--new titles

KPMOM reminded me now that Indoc is over our kids offical title is "Plebe Candidate".

Way to go PC's!

And as soon as they run around LITERALLY to each
class/meal for next 8 months,
they will be part of the regiment.

How long it takes to be recognized is up to them. The sooner they accomplish the requirements the sooner it will happen. The Class of 2010 was recognized on February 12th.
Is it too early to start the "recognize 2011" posts?

Getting recognized fast is not a good thing. The purpose of this period is to learn to work together as a unit and not as individuals. Learning to work together while completing their steps to recognition benefits all and makes them a stronger class. Their cohesiveness as a class will be put to the test during their senior year. Training leaders and officers is the goal. We should wish them the best as they try to achieve this no matter how long it takes.

What types of things to they DO to be recognized. I have no idea if it's a set list or even decided for this year, so... what are examples of what they did previously as part of recognition?

class of 2010 rocked. getting recognized in feb was a great acomplishment! good job you guys....
ps- no pressure class of 2011 :)

Heck no KPMarineOpsDad....let's get used to the saying. Recognize 2011!

From the handbook on the parents page:

Steps to a 4th Classman
To Get Here:
You Must Do This:
The prospective students must show themselves to be among America's best and brightest and receive a nomination from their congressman and then be accepted by the USMMA Admissions Department.
Candidate
To earn the right to become plebe candidates, the candidates must show that they can adapt to the regimental system and discipline themselves to make it at Kings Point. They must make it through the indoctrination period.
Plebe Candidate
Having earned the right to become plebe candidates by surviving the regimental rigors of Indoctrination, the students must now prove themselves capable to adapt not only to regimental life but a heavy academic load as well. It becomes crucial to learn time management skills. This lasts until Acceptance Day (Parents Weekend) in mid to late September when the Freshman class is accepted as Plebes into the Regiment
Plebe
To become 4th Classmen, the class as a whole must prove to the first classmen that they are united as a class in Spirit, Knowledge, and Pride in the school. This is usually accomplished not only through the daily duties but also by accomplishing a list of "Steps to Recognition" set by the Regimental Training Officer. When the First Class believes the class as a whole is ready, they are accepted into the Regiment of Midshipmen by the upperclassmen and "recognized" as fourth classmen.
4th Classman

I meant activities like the ones at the bottom (last 2 photos) on this link Reg wakey-wakey spirit mission. Thanks to the SoCal parents association photo page.

I'm sure they do lots of other community things as well.

"Steps to Recognition" is a long list of things they must acheive as a whole to become part of the regiment. All must pass the PKT (Plebe Knowledge Tests). Sunday evenings are not a fun time. They have to decide upon their class moto & design their class ring. They have to do spirit missions, which oh boy look out for those....where did all that toliet paper go last year? I recall Ninjas running around the year before. Don't ask. The 911 ceremony will count, ect. Many steps are required. Usually Recognition is in March.

Edit: Yeah, Zonk. Thats exactly what I mean by Ninjas & 1000 rolls of toliet paper. They do get very creative. Hope we get pix this year. :D

My girl and rest of 2010 really worked to get recognized

I dunno but she says they got it very early

Nobody likes rounding corners, running ALL the time etc

But they did
and now 2011 will too

It didnt hurt them a bit

They did indeed get Recognized early prouddad2010. Like your name by the way. It fits! Congrats to you & dear daughter.

When the new Plebe parents go into some of the buildings over parent's week-end, look down at the corners, especially near doors & stairwells. The paint is worn completely off from "squaring" corners. Just don't get in the way when they're doing it. :D

Jamzmom

Thanks. I take you comment as a compliment.
Yep. I wear my heart on my sleeve.

These kids, candidates, plebes and so on are some of the hardest working, motivated and focused young people in our nation. Yours and mine.

I am only a very common man who was lucky enough to nurture, raise and help to guide her. This was a pleasure.

Now. with all physical contact all but gone, with only cookies and notes to send her. my Daughters father can only glow each moment he ponders her success.

A very sweet success.

As prouddad2010. it would very difficult for me to do otherwise,
