Industrial/architectural.........

alright, i have the choice between architectural engineering and industrial engineering.........im going to be a freshman this fall.........i dont have to decide which one i want to enroll in until the spring semester..........anyway im at penn state university(which is supposed to be the no.4 best in IE)...........i really want to do consulting or get in i bank....and i heard that industrial engineers get those jobs with BS's.........especially in top IE universities(Penn state being one)...........should i go with that or AE(a five year program-kinda obscure profession) and do an MBA later?.........i know it might seem kinda obvious to you guys that im leaning toward IE but im conflicted at this point.........what do you think my chances of getting a consulting/banking job with an IE BS degree from a no. 4 in IE university are?........

incidently, what do you think my chances of getting a job as an "industrial engineer" are?.......is job availability good or bad?..

i know im all over the place but help me out here.......

I'm not sure, but from what I gather investment banks recruit mostly from schools that are nationally ranked as elite overall (not just one area). IE Purdue is ranked highly in Engi but I don't think many Ibanks recruit there. I'd wait for a reply from Alexandre - he is a mod here and very knowledgeable.

lol....going to an expensive school without any aid was what i was trying to avoid.........i might just settle for an IE job and pursue an MBA later.......

and im also hearing all this stuff about IE being called "imaginary engineering"......funny im interested in two seemingly "obscure" professions..........thanx for the info...i'll wait for alex's response........

guys....help.........ANYONES input is appreciated........

...........................

industrial engineering = advanced business & management.

or maybe you could call it "computational business management"

thanx....would you say job availability and the flexibility of the degree are good?.........

I think consulting firms like IE majors.

yeah thats what i thought as well.....but a tonne of people on here have emphasized the importance of getting an IE degree from an elite school in order to get a consulting job(since consulting firms recruit at these schools).......and im in the penn state university.....so i dont know how helpful the degree will be based on what other on this board have said....... IE at penn state is the no.4 best industrial engineering program in the country-so i thought it was only logical to enroll in the program since i have the same level of interest in IE and architectural engineering........

in essence, is it a practical degree only if its obtained from an elite school?.......are there a wide variety of consulting jobs or "jobs" period-that i would be able to get with a PSU IE degree?......

id like to know what kind of job an IE degree from purdue can get me if i have a pretty low gpa ( 3.0 )
