DD '19 looking for colleges that have product design or industrial design majors which seems to be a niche unicorn major. Have found a few - NCState, Georgia Tech, Stanford, CMU (sorta)… She has few yrs programming, strength in math, science, but think a Computer Science major doesn’t fit what she thinks she is interested in - which is technology product design. Not interested in singular art or design schools - but a tech focused school with this kind of major or option to minor in design maybe?
Any suggestions welcome!
My D is a third year Industrial design major at Rochester Institute of Technology. She loves the school and the program. D could have gone the engineering route but is much more of an artist at heart. ID has the right mix for her. Being on a campus with mostly STEM focused students has worked out very well for her.
In addition to RIT, she also looked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NJ Institute of Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology (we’re in NJ) and Drexel. She ended up applying to RIT and Drexel.
Good luck to your daughter.
