Hey guys,
I'm interested in entering an Industrial Design program, preferably at a school that isn't an art school as I'd like to minor in biology or physics.
If you guys could recommend some schools for me to check out, that would be fantastic. :D
My parents (and I) are pretty much open for me to go anywhere (geographical wise), however, I'm not a fan of constant year - round heat - so no schools in Arizona, etc.
Needs to be really close, or in an urban area.
If you need more information from me let me know.

As for right now, I'm looking at Ohio State and Carnegie Mellon. Opinions on those schools would be nice, too. : )

I have a couple of friends who did their art undegrad in OSU and they always speak highly of the I.D. program. Other I.D. programs I know of are ACCD in CA and CCA in SF. Both are topnotch especially ACCD (hard to get into , super expensive, i think 60k+ a year?). Are you a high schooler?? There’s also University of Cincinnati but their deadline already passed.

To be honest, industrial design like architecture takes a lot of time and dedication to be excellent at it. I personally won’t advice you to take a minor in physics or biology because you won’t be any good at any design professions if you don’t breathe or live it, seriously. My friends (arch, ID) sometimes sleep at the studio and do homework for other classes there when they have spare time. I’m not saying its impossible but if you want to be EXCELLENT at what you do, FOCUS on it, especially design.

Would you rather be a jack of all trades and master of none, or a master of one?

Yuup, highschoolers - junior, so i’ll be applying next year.
Great to know people say positive things about OSU!
thanks a bunch for recommending some schools, and the advice regarding having a minor - I’ll keep it in mind.

My daughter is a 3rd year at DAAP at University of Cincinatti. It’s a great program with a great co-op program. DAAP’s ID program is top ranked. She was accepted to RISD, but chose DAAP for the co-op program. Would be very difficult to minor in bio or physics. The ID sttudents at DAAP live and sleep at their studios.

From a US citizen perspective, does anyone see any canadian industrial design programs highly?
Carleton? U of Alberta? Emily Carr?
