Industrial Engineering ABET Accredited Importance

Hi everyone,

I'm a freshman at Hofstra University majoring in Industrial Engineering. I chose Hofstra because it has a variety of majors (I went in undecided). Hofstra is not ABET accredited for Industrial Engineering, only: Mechanical and Electrical. Will this make me less competitive for getting a job after college? Would you recommend transferring to a school that is ABET accredited for Industrial Engineering?

Thanks for viewing and for the input!

PS - I spoke with the chairperson and he said it has no impact, but I feel like that's biased.

Well it will impact you if you are looking to get your PE. As far as job competitiveness, I would look to see who is coming and recruiting IE’s at your career fair(this should all be on their career fair website or something similar). Then look at some of the other schools you are thinking of transferring to to see if there are considerably more/less/same amount of desirable employers that will see your face and decide on you as the candidate.
Good luck
