Industrial Engineering vs. Economics/Finance/Accounting/Marketing

I am not enjoying my classes (especially upper-level math). I am a quarter and a half into my studies as an industrial engineer, but am currently not enjoying it. My GPA is fine and the workload is taxing but not impossible. I’ll likely graduate in four years, whatever major.

How do the job prospects/pay differ from one major to the next? Will an econ/finance/accnt degree get a job with similar ease as IE? I ultimately desire to work as an international business something (international accountant, sales rep, etc). IE can go into econ, but not the other way around… And, what major is recommended? I understand that accounting is more focused, whereas econ more broad. Marketing would be interesting too, if a logical career decision.

I am undoubtedly most afraid of regret, and am having major (haha) issues deciding. Any and all advice (knowledgeable or not) is greatly appreciated!!

Addendum: I’ll have zero loans leaving college and, for what it’s worth, I attend a “Tech” school.

You likely won’t like economics then if a strong requirement is understanding theoretical applications of calculus and applied mathematics. Finance or Accounting could be of interest since it is quantitative but not in the high level manner of Econ or Engineering unless you are going into quantitative trading. Marketing, if you are not pursuing quantitative research could also work.

The degree won’t really be the limit as to whether or not you can work internationally, that will depend more so on the companies you apply to and your skillsets outside of your immediate function.

Thank you! What about job prospects? Is finance, accounting, marketing more/less preferred? If the same person from all three applied to the same generic job, would any have a notable upper hand?

That doesn’t really make any sense because there isn’t such a thing as a “generic” job. Even if there were a “generic” job it would immediately be nullified by the fact that there was a preference between majors because the preference itself would indicate that it’s not generic…

If you are making a career decision based on career placement rather than interest you probably won’t enjoy it very much…

For those who like the subject matter, you can’t go wrong with accounting. There’s a very clear career path (take CPA exam, work in a public accounting for a few years, get CPA license, etc.).

An accounting degree will prepare you well for accounting jobs (and perhaps some finance jobs), but not for marketing jobs.
