On my acceptance letter it says nothing about the honors program at all, but when I checked the stats needed to qualify I noticed that I have met them (I have a 4.15 weighted UC GPA, 2220 SAT, 32 ACT). My initial guess was that since I applied as Undecided Physical Sciences L&S they didn't saying anything about honors. Do I qualify for the honors program? Can I still apply even though I'm officially undecided? Thanks.

You can email them about it I guess, but don't sweat it if you don't apply now. You can apply any quarter you want as long as you meet the eligibility (it's like a 3.5 cumulative GPA once you're here)

The official UCLA explanation for it:

Continuing UCLA Students: All current and Continuing UCLA Students may qualify for admission to College Honors on the basis of a cumulative UC grade point average of 3.5 or higher with at least 12 graded units taken at UCLA. You must also be able to complete all required honors coursework prior to graduation. To apply, please sign-up for a College Honors Orientation for Continuing Students through the Workshops link on MyUCLA attendance is mandatory.

Important note for new Freshmen and Transfer students currently in their 1st quarter at UCLA: If you did not apply or were denied admission to College Honors as an incoming student you must now qualify as a "Continuing UCLA Student" based on the criteria above. Your high school or transfer GPA no longer applies.

So basically, the earliest time we can apply is after the 1st quarter of freshman year, and not earlier? (assuming a 3.5 GPA and 12 units)

Yea. Really, you shouldn't worry that much about it though.

thefizzle656, i think you qualify for the honors program. try to contact them to see what went wrong.

you also have to be in the top 3% of your class, and I guess they abide by that strictly. I have a 2310 and my UC gpa is above 4.6, but I'm not in the top 3% of my class (private school, lots of competition), so I'm assuming that's why I didn't get honors. However, I think you can apply to be in the program sometime during the school year.

Personally, UCLA is a hard school as is without honors. And I want to have the time of my life in college, four years of a social experience that is just as awesome as the academic one (hey, I worked so hard in highschool just to get to his point). So I probably won't even apply for honors at UCLA.

Hmm, well I'm looking at the website which says what you have to have to qualify, and it says that you can qualify by SAT/GPA OR Class rank, so I'm going to try to contact them and see if I at least qualify.

what are the advantages of being in the honors program?

hey, i'm an out of stater and i'm trying to qualify for honors using the gpa/sat route. my sat score is high enough, but i have no idea what my UC gpa is. how do i check?

If your GPA falls below 3.5, are you automatically dropped from the Honors Program? Is there a probation period, or can you be readmitted if you bring your GPA back up?

I think I found the answer to the first part of my question- It's reviewed after the spring quarter and you have to have a 3.1 GPA plus a certain # of honors units.

do you take harder classes if you apply for honors?

if you're in honors, you get priority enrollment and priority housing enrollment even though you're not in a cluster or whatever that gives you priority enrollment. honors also looks really good in your grad/professional school apps. that's if you stay in it. also, yes honors requires you to take harder classes. well not really, but you do have to take honors class and get honors credit along with whatever pre-reqs you already have for your major to stay in the honors program.

so, who do I contact about trying to get into the Honors program since i have the SAT scores and GPA, but not class rank? e-mail address or phone?

honors@college.ucla.edu

I contacted them and they told me that I was eligible so I should just go ahead and apply and see what happens. Smilefriends, I also don't have the class rank so as long as you qualify by SAT/GPA then you're good to go.

why do they say you have to "apply" for honors program? aren't u automatically in if your gpa/sat is high enough? maybe they just do it to check and make sure?
