just a quick question: while you are at the academy can you becaome a ranger or go airborne and graduate with being a ranger or airborne qualified ?
is this something you would do junior or senor yer in the summer

I think that during your cow summer you can go to Benning and get your airborne wings. I'm pretty sure you can't get your ranger tab until after graduation, although I think you can train and visit with a Ranger unit during cow summer as well (or maybe Firstie summer too).

thanks yea i wasnt sure if you could earn ur tab. Also when you train with different units outside of west point what is your rank ?

I think it's 3rd Lt.

It's still just CDT. You're referred to as a Cadet, but basically treated like an Officer.

What is a 3rd Lt.???

its actually 2nd Lt. (a second lieutenant is an officer)

I could have sworn they give you a provisional title of 3rd Lt. (which isn't a real rank in the Army) for when you train with units during summers.

3rd LT makes sense because you're below all the real officers (2nd LT at lowest) but above enlisted... maybe thats what you're treated like but still just called cadet.

do u still give orders to the other lower ranks or are u jsut there to learn and observe ? basically are u just training there or are u learning to lead and follow the techniques of others while you are there or both.

If you give orders to some of the NCOs they would probably just kick you in the balls and bite you in half.

As mentioned above the Cadet rank is above any NCO rank and below any commissioned officer rank. Training is serious business and if you are a real "wannabe" you will soon find out that the NCOs will depend on you as you will depend on them. Judging from your remarks you may be kicked in the b**** and would likely deserve it.

I was just kidding... I know the way it works. I'm just saying that if I were a senior NCO and some snot-nosed West Pointer walked in and started to rip on me I wouldn't be too happy, even though I would still follow his orders. It was a joke. I apologize if the humor didn't come across.

you can go to airborne and air assualt as a freshman in rotc.
do you have to wait two years at west point?

and cadet is CERTAINLY not above any NCO. cadet is lower than private. i don't know what the official line is, but trust me. CDT = submaggot

hahaha to wpwannabe and michaelburt lmfao!

Really... I thought I heard somewhere that Cadets are given 3rd LT. as a rank for summer training. I think it was in Absolutely American. Maybe he was just saying they are given a rank like 3rd LT. I'd never heard of it before that. And 8IzEnuff... now I'm just confused. Some say you're above an NCO, and others say not? Which is it?

okay- you get the rank of C/2LT. You wear one pip. trust me, when you a an E7 screaming at you, "you're my favorite kay-det" you'll understand. there is no rank of 3LT.

when you train with the ranger unit, are they in ranger school or have they gone through it already? Aslo in ROTC cna u earn your tab or is it the same thing as what you do at the Academy ?

TECHNICALLY Cadets rank above all Enlisted but below Warrant Officers. The reality of the matter is that most Cadets get treated like Privates, when not in a command setting (such as CTLT). During CTLT, Cadets are treated like Platoon Leaders. Some units will actually salute, most will not.

At West Point, Cadets pretty much outrank no one in TRA (The Real Army). You do whatever the NCOs tell you to do.

Don't you outrank something like the Supe's dogs and all the Admirals in the Navy? I heard that somewhere :)
