hahaha Beat Navy HOOAH

lol cadets... we had some show up this summer and say "you can salute me if you want" lol... um, this strand of hair coming out of my head has more time in the army than you son. how can a cadet outrank enlisted people when cadets aren't even part of the army. "3rd LT" was probably people just playin a joke on some cadet getting him to believe he carried any rank.

so baseically the cadet is the loest rank when out in the feild but is learning adn getting tips from officers and NCO's on how to become a Dam good officer

...sure

just remember you're still just a college student in the eyes of the real army.

mr.greenapple you in the army now or cadet or what from waht you said i figured you are in the Army now

ranger-hooah:
1.Your username misrepresents you. You're not a Ranger. Don't come back with "this is the internet" or "it's what I want to be."
2. Do some research (try google) before you ask questions that have answers that can easily be found through your own research.
3. Learn the difference between a Ranger, and Ranger School.
4. If you come into the Army or West Point, don't go on a badge hunt. The Army is not the Boy Scouts. Seek training based on self development and being able to pass the knowledge to your peers/subordinates. If you branch Infantry, you will be encouraged, nearly forced, to goto Ranger School, and you won't have a hard time going to Airborne. Both schools are open to pretty much anybody (male for Ranger School). You attend schools to learn a skill, not put fruit salad on your uniform.

yomtvraps tells it like it is. You don claim to be what you are not. Here at West Point, getting an Airborne or Air Assault slot is fairly easy, you must complete a military development school during your time here, either after Yuk or Cow year. Those schools are two of the easier ones to get, but with the current Optempo, slots are harder to find than in the past (AASALT used to be pretty much a "gimmie" if you wanted it). Sapper, Special Forces Assesment Selection, Combat Diver Qualification Course, these course are all offered but are extremely difficult and competitive to get.

wow lets start picking apart peopls usernames that sound like fun ? the reason i saked these questions is because i am intrested in being a ranger and being in the miltary and was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is like, i thougt this woud be more benefical than research on the internet.

sorry ASKED **********

mrgreenapple: did you do basic at action jackson?
maygne- y'all gotta realise that as a kay-det, you really are a maggot. i mean, respect is all about earnin' it. if you cant even stay in step with your own cadence or you just act like a dumbass in general, people wont respect you. when you get your goldbar, a SGM will call you lieutennant, not sir. you gotta earn it. and about the fruit salad issue- don't be a a clown. i know many people with CIB's that dont wear them cuz they didn't really do anything.

8IzEnuff, have you ever had a Cadet be your Platoon Leader during CTLT? You certainly wouldn't be calling them maggot then. Just like anyone else, you have to earn other's respect, it's not something automatically received. When you salute someone, you're not necessarily saluting them, you're saluting the authority and the privilege that their rank gives them, what that rank stands for.

In addition, once they're done with Buckner, Cadets have completed more than what Basic would have taught your basic Private. No, West Point is not the real Army, but it's not filled with useless, stupid dumbasses either. When you talk about all Cadets like that, you almost reflect badly on yourself because of the generalities that you're using. There are plenty of Cadets who HAVE seen action and HAVE been in the Real Army, and those that haven't are certainly working hard to get there. You can't just judge a person by the rank they wear.

This is turning into an interesting discussion. I've often wondered what the basic feeling of cadets/soldiers is in regard to the rank system. As a high schooler, my feeling is that ranks only purpose is to show who everyone turns to when the s**t hits the fan. Aside from this difference, everyone is a soldier and everyone is willing to lay down there lives for what they believe. What do I know though.

As far as the Army is concerned, West Point Cadets (I dont know if ROTC is the same) are Geneva Convention Category III; the same as officers. That is what you carry on your ID card. In addition, the Corps of Cadets is considered part of the Active Duty Army.

How you are treated at CTLT depends on your unit. Most NCOs will consider you to be the same as an officer, under the understanding that you do not nearly have the technical or tactical knowledge of a commisioned officer and are there mainly to learn leadership. Some cadets actually serve as a PL the entire time (the platoon's PL may be on leave), others are just another member of squad, it all depends your own experience.

It's been my experience at Airborne School that you will be treated like the lowest of the low. That mainly comes from SGT Airborne knowing that you are going to be an officer and you better be able to prove yourself. it's not that big of a deal.

airborne school is two weeks long right ?

rotc cadets show catagory I on the id card

abn school is 3 weeks

8IzEnuff, have you ever had a Cadet be your Platoon Leader during CTLT?

no. and would i call them a maggot? no. do your hear SGT's calling specialists maggots? no. being a maggot myself, i don't have much authority.
