I plan on going to med school, but how is the grade inflation at JHU? i have heard that it is very difficult to maintain a 3.5+, so would it be smarter to just go to a less prestigious college and get a better gpa?

This topic has been debated to death on the Student Doctor Network (College Confidential for pre-meds)

Well, the average humanities major in the fall of 2005 was a 3.51, so apparently you need to be average to maintain a 3.5 in those subjects

That semester the overall average GPA was ~3.4 according to the transcript guide that is distrbuted by the registrar

spe07 link?

I am unaware of any link, you have to go to the registrar's office to get a transcript guide (its on green paper). It basically explains hopkins grading system and is distributed with every transcript that is sent out. Check it out for yourself, I can't verify via the internet

thanks spe07

One more thing to note, I believe that the averages and ranges given in the guide change every semester so if you go in this fall I would expect something slightly different. This past falls average GPAs were the highest that I had seen, before that the average was still around a 3.35 with humanities being in the 3.45 range I beleive

I know this discussion has occurred a few other times, but I could only find one old thread. Enjoy.
