Influence of Mid-term Grade on Admission

Does a mid-term grade have a significant impact on transfer admission?
I have got straight A last semester(I'm a freshman), but have a B in the mid-term grade (I'm sure that I will make an A with this at the end of the semester) this semester. Will this influence much?

Midterms can have an effect. If they’re really good, they can give a slight bump to your chances. On the other hand if they’re abysmal, say straight C’s, then they can seriously damage your application. In general though they’re not going to have a huge effect on your application. Unless that B was in a class that’s indispensable to your major, I don’t think it will be a big issue, so long as the overall decrease in your GPA from last semester to this midterm is small. The only other thing I’d say is that it might be the tipping point towards a rejection if you applied to places where your chances were already minimal. Execuitive summary: while it’s not good, I don’t think it will do much damage unless your GPA crashed or that B was in a class that’s integral to your major.

wow such a careful reply! Thanks 8)

So if I had lets say approximately straight C’s last semester and this semester (mid-term) have like Mostly Bs and maybe one A, one C+ would that really help?

In your case since it’s an upward trend of sorts, it might help. I don’t think it could really hurt your application more than it’s already been damaged by your first semester grades. I’m not saying that to be mean, but to be honest. If you got straight C’s, that makes you a pretty weak candidate for most institutions. Overall your midterms might help a slight bit, or at least not hurt you, but realistically they can’t remotely help make up for your first semester grades.

Well what if the reason I want to transfer is the reason I got a bad grade (it’s much deeper than that, but that is most simple I can get). But I thought that is why they emphasize to see the high school transcript and essay. Because I really believe if I was not at this college I would be doing much better (not putting down the college I am attending right now, by the way). Thanks.

What if some instructors were unable to give a midterm report due it being too early in the semester?

extention0: mid-term grade report is not official, so they can just sum up all your grade so far. and it is not too early now  good luck to you

Oh, I submitted my application already. Before that, I was unable to get three of my courses included on my mid-term report due to lack of sufficient information on grading.

Extention0: many transfer application websites say you can submit the report “as soon as possible”, not at specific time, so it wouldn’t matter much when you submit it, if it’s before adcoms begin reviewing. btw, you mean your report was submitted incompleted?? if so, i think you gotta update it~

The application was due on March 15th. The school stated that they will review the applications early April. It appeared that not all my professors were able to put down a grade because there were not any assignments at that time. I was able to receive three of the grades.
