Info About Georgetown NHS

If you are admitted to NHS, could you still minor in another school?

@Savage101 Congrats!!! I’m a current freshman at Georgetown, majoring in Human Science (pre-med) in the NHS. There is around 75 students in our major. It’s quite tight net and I love it. The NHS curriculum is rigorous so some students do switch to a more liberal major. I, although the course load is rigorous, love it. All my required courses are amazingly relevant to medicine. We take courses like Pathophysiology., human biology (anatomy), epidemiology, etc. If you definitely know you want to go into the medical field then Human Science is your major. It replaces most of those liberal classes you take in the college like history and launguage with sciences that are relevant to medicine.
I would say the Human Science majors are more prepared for the mcat than regular Biology majors because unlike the biology majors we cover anatomy and disease which will be in the mcat compared to plant biology. The only thing we kinda miss out on is Bio 1 , which covers the microscopic levels of biology but you always take that as an elective or prepare on your own. I find personally learning anatomy more useful.

@CassiniButterfly You can’t minor in the SFS or the MSB but you can minor in the college.

Hope this helps!!

@Melissazaki

do you know how competitive the early assurance program is?

Thanks @Melissazaki for your help! The reason I applied to Human science in the first place is because of its focus on topics related to medicine- it sounds like a cool program.

@ashley676 I’m not a Georgetown student, but what I’ve heard is that it’s pretty competitive. But I also heard that if you have the required grades you need for the Early Assurance program, you should be able to get into Georgetown med anyways. (That’s what I read somewhere online, I didn’t get that information directly).

@ashley676 I would say it is fairly competitive. But giving it a shot won’t hurt. I applied early assurance and was deferred. But I didn’t do anything new or send in anything and was accepted during regular. Early assurance is competitive because of the limited spots they can offer at the beginning.

@savage101, @CassiniButterfly , and @ashley676 , did you make a decision to attend Georgetown’s NHS?

@Winky1 I just comitted :slight_smile: HBU?

@Savage101, my girl committed to Pitt! Is on wl for Georgetown, Cornell, and Case Western Reserve!

Congrats
