info about skidmore

I havent had the chance to visit but it looks beautifuuul on the website.
however Id really appreciate if people who have visited or who study there can tell me more about life on campus, academics and sorrounding city.
thankss:)

I visited there this summer with my son, who has applied RD. Its a beautiful campus with great dorms. The setting is open and the facilities appear well maintained. The dorms are very nice…my older son went to Loyola undergrad and Northwestern Grad and the Skidmore dorms are the best I’ve seen.
The academic programs are top notch. My son aplied to business with a music minor. The college has a strong reputation and is considered as one of the 25 “New Ivies”.
Best of luck…

I applied RD to Skidmore but couldn’t make a visit. It looks beautiful from the pictures
Did you and your son find the surrounding area nice too?

Saratoga Springs is wonderful…nice restaurants…lots to do…pretty good music scene…remember, the race track is near there so the area gets a fair amount of visitors during the season…

We visited last summer and totally fell in love with the place. Saratoga is a beautiful town, and just the right size for a college town I think–cozy, but big enough so that there’s more to it than the college. The campus itself is not only leafy and pretty, but it’s one of the few colleges we visited that has a really coherent layout, with a “story arc” to the way groups of buildings are placed and connected. You walk around the place and feel like this would just be a wonderful environment to live and work in.

I’m an RD applicant, and I visited twice.
It was a very nice campus. Probably a bit more on the ritzy side (but that’s only compared to the schools I’m applying to, which are mostly low-key), but I don’t mean to an extreme like a Colgate or Wake Forest. I just mean the kids tend to be clean cut and well dressed. The campus is kept very clean (impeccably so) and the dorms are stunning. The buildings are modern ish I guess, but beautiful. Lots of trees, and in a nice town. Saratoga Springs doesn’t appear to have a VERY close relationship with Skidmore, but offers its students a lot in the realm of community service & entertainment. Very safe town. The academics are probably the best part. Not too small that it’s stifling, but enough that you get a personal relationship with the students. I have heard from peopel who’ve attended that the curriculum emphasizes a creative approach on learning (more writing & projects as opposed to memorization), although it is traditional enough and strong enough in the sciences & math that it’s not a female-dominated school, and a lot of kids go for business, med school, etc. A very good mix, really (I’m sure it provides for plenty of outlooks and discussion in the classroom!) Not super diverse, but the college appears to try very hard to be inclusive with the resources it has. The student appears to be as a whole tolerant and liberal. I really liked Skidmore overall and I would say it’s one of my top 3 choices.

wow *personal relationship with the teachers… not on top of grammar today…

When you visited Skidmore, did they take down your name or anything? Do they establish a personal connection from your visit and keep in touch with you or something?

They did keep in touch via letters and notices about the applications, deadlines, etc. They took down my name both times.
