Info/data/polling request to help in column for college paper

Hi folks-

An old CC vet here who used this like crazy during the college app process (was really helpful), hoping some folks can help me out:

I'm writing a column for my college newspaper, and I was wondering if anyone out there had any polling/ figures/ data on something like, say, people who would go back and do all four years of college over again if they could. Any polling on regrets one had about, anything like that.

I know this is a vague request, but I'm writing a column about how, as I'm now a senior, I've come to realize that senior year isnt all it cracked up to be. By that I mean as Freshman, you're longing for Sophmore year so you can get a better dorm, or as a Junior you want to be a Senior so you can hit up the bars, etc., but in reality, you should just be enjoying where you're currently at, because when its all said and done, if you keep waiting for things to get better, your four years will be done, ya know?

So as its a column, it would help to have figures, some data, some numbers, some studies, etc. behind it. So if anyone can knows of anything off the top of their head that would be good to cite, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

(I'm not looking to cite anyone, quote anyone, or anything of that nature. No names will be used in the column, nor will CC be referenced. Just hoping some people having some links to polling that may be helpful)

There is a question like that asked of seniors at the end of the spring semester on the National Survey of Student Engagement. The specific question is:

If you could start over again, would you go to the same institution you are now attending?
Definitely yes/Probably yes/Probably no/Definitely no

If your college has participated in NSSE in the past few years, your institutional research office would probably be willing to share the result with you. NSSE results are not public. There is, however, a public annual report that might contain national results for that question.

Thanks Lynx, very helpful. I’ll look into that, could be just what I need.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated as well! Deadlines Tuesday, eek :(
