Auditions are already in process or coming up soon for many HS seniors and I was just wondering if anyone had information to share on their experience of auditioning at CCM?

i have been patient on a responce here but i guess no one wants to help me out :/ lol

I haven't read too many from CC who have done their CCM audition this year so that may be why. Those from last year may not be posting here any longer, though some parents might be. There are so many folks out there that don't post on CC, so you gotta just go with who is here. In my own case, my D did not apply/audition for CCM so I can't help you. You could also ask this on one of the audition threads, just in case a parent who had a kid audition last year or the year before reads that but doesn't visit the CCM thread itself.
Susan

(You could try sending a PM to Freelance....her daughter is a freshman there)

You might want to try the other threads for CCM - there is a teeny bit on CCM - what are they looking for.... if nothing else, you could see who said they had already done theirs, and email them.

There is also an "incoming freshmen" page from last spring - so those are kids who are currently there - but the audition process hasn't changed - group meeting - dance, then individual song/monologues (and they DO have a timer for the mono)

I'd suggest email, instead of PM - because they may no longer be keeping up with CC....

When is your audition?

my audition is this week on the 14th

Hi TheatreJock!

(please excuse the spelling/ punctuation as im in a hurry)

I auditioned for CCM in early december, I beleive it was the first audition they offered. I got to Cincinnatti the day before my audition, but my flight came in too late for me to take a tour. I did get to meet with a woman from the admissions office, i believe her name was Allison. She was a great help to me, as she spent at least 40 minutes with me answering all my questions about the school, the audition day, and getting to know me. This was not an interview, mind you, but if you can I strongly encourage you to do this becasue I really learned a lot about the school that you can't find on the website.
Later that afternoon I got to sit in on a class. Again, if you can, I STRONGLY encourage you to do this. I saw a freshman acting class, and it really gave me an idea of the school, the way things are run, the students, etc. Plus, what was being taught was absolutely fascinating, and I was able to talk to a few students I knew from a summer program about the school after the class.
That day there were also plenty of practice rooms available, ask at the admissions office for directions.

Now the audition:
The morning of the audition at about 8 we all met at the main building. WE were given our audition schedules, and there was a BRIEF Q and A for parents and students with some admissions people. Again, if you take the tour or meet one on one with someone from the admissions office you'll learn a lot more about the school. They did a run down of what the day would be like, then the auditionees went to change for dance and the parents went to a lovely parents room. My mom loved this as the room was very comfartable, lots of couches and coffee and tea, and she spent most of the day in there talking to the other parents. It was the best set up that we saw for parents at any of the schools I auditioned at.
After the parents left we were walked over to the dance room. We changed, and then gathered in a studio where we met Aubrey Berg, Ms. Lala, and the msuic guy who's name escapes me. They gave a brief intro of the program, what they were looking for. If I remember right, they really wanted to see atitude, and of course, excellent dancing. WE were then randomly split into 2 groups who each went to their own studio.
Two seniors taught each group the dance. There was a warm up first, about 15 minutes long. while we were warming up and they were teaching us the dance, Mr. Berg, Ms. Lala and the music guy alternate watching the two rooms, so at all times be on you best behavior, be involved, etc, bc im sure they were taking mental notes about us. The dance was challenging, but in my opinion not horrible, and it was taught quickly but with plenty of time to review and get it right. Honestly, I was surprised as I was expecting a much more difficult dance. both groups then met in one studio, to do the dance for the heads of the department. Each group of about 5 ( called in alphabetical order) did the dance twice. they did not review the dance in the middle of the groups, so if your name is at the end it was a good 20 minutes in between when you learned the dance and performed it. The heads of the dept. did not show any kind of emotion, though they were very nice.
After the dance part we all sat down and got the chance to watch current students perform. A group did "Good morning" from singing in the rain, a dance to a Micheal Buble song, and a girl who sang "and the world goes round".

After this I had some time before my monologue and songs, so I went back to my hotel. however, there are plenty of places to eat close to the audition building if you dont have a lot of time before your audition, and there are practice rooms if you want to quickly warm up.

I got to the audition/monologue room about 15 minutes before schedule, and they were running early. There were students doing timing and introducing auditionees, and I was able to ask them some questions. When I went in I was first greeted by the accompaniest, who was incredibly funny, very talkative, and immediately put me at ease. I did my monologue first, and they did have a timer who promptly signaled me to stop after 1 minute. I did my songs, (the accompaniement was excellent). MR. Berg, Ms. Lala and music guy didn't say anything besides "enjoy your stay in cincinnatti" (but they were not intimidating at all. ) and that was it.

Overall, it was a very positive audition. Everyone was friendly, even thought the department heads were not very talkative, and I had a very positive opinion of the school when I left. I didnt get into CCM, but I was accepted at NYU so its all good.

I hope this helped! All I can say is, realax, dont be nervous, and have fun. Break a leg!

weetziebat223 ,
wow thank you so much for the reply. that is a great deal of help and especially a relief about the dance and accompanists info u gave..thanks again

So I had my audition on saturday. I got into the town on Friday afternoon, took a cab to the Marriot Kingsgate (if you're coming from out of state, or need a hotel, STAY AT THE MARRIOT! There's a shuttle, a great restruant, and when I walke din, they automatically knew I was one of the 50 kids here for CCM auditions... it was amazing). I got to the campus around 4, and met with Dr. Tom Canapa (the associate vice president of admissions). He was absolutely amazing, and him and his staff put me at ease instantly. After I got an academic illustration of the entire university, I spent only a few seconds walking around CCM village (it was getting too cold and dark).

Saturday, there was a 15 minute Q and A at 7:45, and then we were thrown into two rooms and taught the dance. First off, let me say that everyone of the poeple auditoning was increidbly nice, and I was completely put at ease once I started talking to the guys while we were changing and waiting for the dance audition. The dance audition to me was just a lot of fun. There was a stretching section and then we went straight into the dance. I was expecting something very challenging, but the dance we learned wasn't TOO bad, but still a challenge to do perfectly. It was FAST, and there were a lot of weight changes, kicks, and even a jump and turn or two. It was a lengthy combo too. Dr. Burg kept saying "it's a happy song", so I think he weas looking for proficiency AS WELL AS enthusiasm and emotion.

Students performed for us (It was basically the same performance that WeetzieBat described), and then we were excused until our specific voice/mono times. Mine was the absolute end of the day (I was the last guy) so I got to enjoy all of the supplimental things CCM supplid for prospective students during the day. MAKE SURE you go on the CCM Village tour, you get your parents into the Parent Meeting, and that you go to the Student panel (the student panel was the highlight of my day). After a long time of waiting, I did my voice and monologue audition, which went great. They said "have a safe journey home" and sent me on my way.

Overall, it was the most fun I've ever had at an audition before.

Did you go to the Opera? I thought the second one, "Trouble in Tahiti" was awesome.

Good luck, I was there too, but for Dramatic Performance, not MT.

So I auditioned the 14th and it was not as bad as everyone had described it to me (not people of CC, but friends and peers). Aubrey was not intimidating at all except for the fact of him having the choice of accepting you into the program or not lol. but he was very pleasant and so were all of the current CCM students. very good vibe. dance was hard for me (boy with no dance experience at all) but the monologue and songs was pretty casual and welcoming. short and sweet..nice welcome, nice goodbye..and that was it..very straight forward and business like but not cruel or intimidating in the least bit. ..

-ps..the students who performed for us were AWESOME!

Hi Auditionees!
Hiiiiiii Bubba!

That was funny.

just a question- did all of you guys write a follow-up letter to "Bubba" when you got home? It said if you were REALLY interested, you should write a letter when you get home from the audition on one of the yellow audition summary sheets.

I auditioned with you and in my stapled student packet all i got was a full white and blue sheet and a bright green half sheet..i dont think i recieved a yellow sheet saying that???

Am i the only one who missed out on this..or were there others who were unaware?

no in the audition packet you got in the mail... it was bright yellow?

ooooh..i never got a packet in the mail..i just got a confirmation email online..lol...well anyways, no one else has responded about writing a letter...and i didnt get that packet..so basically, i have no info for you lol...but, good luck with your acceptance.

My daughter never got an audition packet in the mail either. She's auditioning in LA at the unifieds. Does she need this packet or not? Also, does anyone have an opinion on whether the resume should be one or two pages for CCM--and whether it should be loose or on the back of a headshot (don't they want 2 headshots or do I have the mixed up?)? I know in the past the CC concensus has been 2 pages is fine for a college resume, but I'm wondering if that holds true for CCM.

The LA CCM audition was cold and machine like. Get them in and out. No warmth at all. They didn't even have a piano or an accompanist. Everything had to be on CD. How's that for a MT audition program!

This sounds very different from my d's experience in Cincinnati. They were very warm and encouraging. It's interesting you experienced the CD as a "negative." I would think having to adjust to a strange accompanist might be trickier? At least your CD plays it the same way every time.. (hopefully)....
