I know CPP is well-known for its engineering programs, but I realized that isn’t really my interest.

I’m planning on majoring in Business Admin. with a specialization in CIS, also with a focus on cyber security.
CPP has one of the top ranked cyber-security programs in the nation and I was wondering if this was really true. Might they have just sugar-coated it?

I feel like it will be a little bit easier for me to get in considering it’s a non-impacted major. Here are my stats:

CSU GPA: 3.94
SAT: 1030 (560 CR + 470 M) [I’m retaking it this November and planning to improve my math by ALOT, and my CR too.]
6 AP Classes
Tons of Honors Classes

CPP has a very well recognized program in CIS. It was the first school in the nation to implement it into the college of business. Every other school has taken that approach and it is known as the Cal Poly model. The program itself can be tough, and the academic policy is stricter in this program than any other in the school. They are also one of the few colleges I’ve found that offers a master’s program in information assurance.

They do well in cyber security competitions. However, I believe it is Cal State San Bernardino that usually wins those.

I went through the program and thought it was pretty good. I just wish that the courses on telecommunication networking allowed us to use actual hardware rather than a simulated environment. I felt cheated in that regard since the school is supposed to be known for being a “hands on” school. The philosophy is “learn by doing” and I didn’t feel I got that when having to use a simulated environment over actual hardware.
