Nocalmom and other pratt parents/students-
Which do you think is the best dorm for a freshman to request?

I'd be interested to know that too. Have to fill out the housing request.
So please all the pratt people, what would be your opinion?

Art mom, so your kid is going to pratt?

I would say Pantas just because you won't have to lug your portfolio as far as if you lived in Stabile (which is fine as well). Just don't request The Can.

Thank you, wandergirl. That's very helpful.

How do you like pratt so far?

Costelle- Yes, my son will be going to Pratt, majoring in Industrial Design. Are you going to the accepted students day April 29?

Wandergirl - Why not the Can?!

my d's opinion is that pantas or stabile are good - she really likes pantas. she says the community is very tight at the Can but it certainly has some heating and other structural problems. See if you can tour more than one dorm during the accepted students day. We looked at several dorms last year and she chose Pantas. My d will move into a triple in Willoughby next year.

D was in Stabile last year as a freshman. I know it was airconditioned and they have studio work space. She did say Pantas is more central, though carrying around work was not an issue. So I do not think you can wrong with either Pantas or Stabile.

Art Mom - yes, we are going to the accepted students day April 29. So excited about it!

My daughter will major in painting.

What about buying a co-op in the neighborhood? It’s cheaper than the dorm and you can sell it after graduation! I expect to rent space in mine to another student and break even.

We have visited Pantas – it has sheetrock walls, rather than cinder block, as in Stabile. On a recent tour the students said that there are plans to demolish Cannonneer court in the next couple of years – it isn’t that old, but must have issues. Nothing is particularly far from anything else there, so I think Pantas or Stabile is six of one…
But isn’t accepted students’ day on April 16th?

you picked up a thread from 2006

:D
You are more adept at this than I!
Have you made your decision yet? You seem to have a good, mature handle on things :)
