Info on the program

Is there a thread that discusses all the details about the program? If so could someone bump it up. We missed most of the “talk given by the CCM students” on the day of audition due to a conflict with audition times. D is going to spend the day there but I would like to understand the prgram better. Example: Can you still take classical voice lessons, piano, extra dance with the dance majors? Can you minor or dual major in acting? What opportunities are available during the year and summer for MT kids? Do directors recruit there for summer stock?

From what I know about the program, the MT curriculum is pretty set. The average MT freshman load is 18 hrs. a semester so I don't know about when extra courses would fit in. The MT students are placed in dance depending on their skill level. Check out the CCM MT website for the suggested course track. MT students are required to audition for the musicals and there are several opportunities for these during the year. As for summer work, the kids are on their own to audition for summer work. There are some opportunities in Cincinnati but most students pursue other regional theatre opportunities. As far as I know, directors do not routinely come to CCM to audition.

hey chelle,
I am a current freshman mt at ccm. here goes...
We recieve an hour long voice lesson each week. the lesson is given by opera students persuing higher degrees. they are extremely knowledgeable and great teachers who teach using classical voice as the basis of our voice training. as far as dancing with the dance majors, if someone is good enough they are usually alowed to audition for the teachers of the ballet dept. to be admitted to a dance major ballet class. also, a good amount of us do go and dance at studios in the city to keep up with other styles like hip hop or lyrical dance. and if you come in with credit for academics, you can replace those hours in the schedule (we do have 18 hours per quarter) with extra classes like piano or another elective. In our program there is no way to dual major or minor in anything. sorry, it is too intensive and doesnt allow enough hours outside of the curriculum. We have performing opportunities all the time. first of all we are constantly in performing classes, performing in front of out class, and performing in masterclasses. also we audition for the 5 musicals during the year. there are also many performing opportunities with the directing majors working on projects throughout the year. and as far as summer work goes, we are on our own. we do get information from the faculty and audition notices, but we must apply and go to them on our own. although, we do tend to travel in herds to the auditions together and create a large support group during auditions in the process. if you have anymore questions feel free to private message me.
