Info on University of San diego

My Daughter just went for an overnight vist at USD. She really loved campus and has made it her first choice. Can anyone tell more about the school. Do you like the campus? I've heard that a majority of the student body come from wealthy families, is the true? What is the Christian service program like is Youth Ministry. Is there merit aid?

She has a 4.3 weighted GPA and 1330 SAT1. Based on what I have read she has a reasonable good chance of getting in.

Thanks for the feedback

Oh, I know there is a TON of info back in the old forums
<a href="http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/</a>
-search for usd, university of san diego, and/or go in USD's own forum in colleges section

Many of the posts are by Carolyn! :)

As an alum, I can answer three of Ikdad’s questions:

USD does provide merit aid and is quite generous with it.

Yes, the student body tends to be mostly wealthy, which is often true of most private academic institutions, but USD is aggressively going after good students of less affluent backgrounds by supplying ample amounts of financial aid.

In regards to its campus, it’s one of the prettiest on the west coast and probably in the nation. The school takes great pride in it. In particular, the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and the Shiley Center for Science and Technology are amazing.

Something worth adding: USD got a new president last year who is strongly committed to improving its academic reputation, boosting its endowment, and attracting a more diverse student body. Ikdad may find the 10/28/04 article “Data plus rhetorical ‘texts’ equals informed decision-making at USD” under “News” on the home page of USD’s web site very interesting.
