<p>I have a friend who's son is considering it. Does anyone know why it's unranked in USNews and WR? What are the academics like? Is it a spirited "rah rah" school?</p>
<p>There are many universities that are quite good for certain majors but remain unranked in USNWR. </p>
<p>Toledo has good co-op programs in engineering, and strives to recruit students with good grades. However, it is competing against in-state giant Ohio State, and nearby Michigan, together which have a greater attraction than Toledo. A few years ago when we toured the university, we came away impressed with the professors in engineering we spoke with; they seemed genuinely interested in advancing the education of their students. </p>
<p>The university had recently updated their dorms & cafetaria. However, beyond the campus, there seemed fewer recreational activities in and around Toledo for students to participate in. Things may have changed in the last 2- 3 years; just our impression. </p>
<p>Which major is the student considering?</p>
<p>I would imagine it is unranked because there are more popular options instate for strong students, namely Ohio State and Case (if they can afford it) but even OU and Miami. Toledo seems to take a backseat although I am sure it is great.</p>
