Hi, I am interested in case western university but have a couple questions.

Is the campus nice? Unfortunately I probably can not visit because it is a little too far away.

How is campus safety?

How is the social life? I'm not a huge party person but I would like some parties and I'm not sure about Greek life, so is it necessary to be part of Greek life to have a good time there?

How is clevelend? Weather? City life (like is there a lot to do there with a lot of restaraunts) or is the city dull?
Thanks for any help!!

Oh and I almost forgot
5. How is the co op program here? I think co op is very important to me.

Cleveland is COLD!!! But Case Western is a great school and the campus is beautiful. It’s very safe and located several miles outside of downtown in an upscale area called University Circle.

Go to CWRU’s website and check out the videos they have posted there.

My son joined a fraternity but most of his friends are either not in a frat or in a different one. Greek life is available but it’s not a huge influence. There’s also lots of clubs and other groups to get involved with, and lots of good restaurants near campus or a short bus/car ride away.

It’s tolerable, but it’s also on the upswing with a new student center. The size and the fact that a large road cuts the campus in half is not ideal, but there’s nothing that can be done about that. Case seems to have made the most out of what they could on the campus itself, with plenty of restaurants, venues, etc. sprawled throughout.

It’s pretty safe within campus area, but it can get really dangerous really quickly if you’re not careful. Still, it’s good to exercise common sense when out. The only thing to really be vigil about on campus is bike theft.

I can’t say much outside of Greek life, but even though Greek life does play a noticeable large role on campus, it won’t be the only option. I assume most of the non-affiliated who don’t stay in their rooms all day tend to still lead very nice social lives. I do recommend keeping an open mind though, because Greek life at Case is not like the stereotypical Greek life. So try not to lock out everything that’s affiliated with Greek life and who knows, maybe evev consider attending rush events just to see some perspectives.

Downtown Cleveland is pretty nice. There’s a lot of restaurants, sports teams (albeit quite mediocre), and entertainment, and Case provides essentially free transportation. The weather can be…unforgiving. Once the cold starts, it seems like it never ends, and with the Erie effect, clouds and precipitation seem incessant.

The co-op program seems pretty good, depending on major. Almost all of the options are in-state though. Also, if you’re a BME or ChemE, it’ll probably be harder to find a co-op in the first few years. MechE, EE and Comp seem to have the highest success rate. The co-op office does work hard to get you paired up, but with Case exploding in population and Cleveland not the best industry for engineering work, it can be hard to find a job all the time.

This term only half (52%) of eligible students (those who met the GPA and other requirements) in the coop program received offers. In the past they touted 90% placement rate which might cause one to rely on this and have all their eggs in the coop basket. I would suggest if you think you want to do a coop, to look into options on your own in addition to through the coop office.
