Information about CPP Engineering

Can you elaborate on CPP? My son got into Engineering there and has not heard back from SLO (thinking not good news). We have heard it is a commuter college and will not yield the same experience as SLO (his first choice). Can you share your experience/thoughts?

Hello,
I was a Microbiology major in the 80’s at CPP so my information is dated. I was a commuter at that time and only students outside a 100 mile radius were allowed to live on-campus. Things have changed where they can accommodate more students on-campus now. The majority of CSU’s are more commuter based since they are there to serve the local students in the community. @Gregmacd might have more recent information regarding campus life. I believe they have a daughter currently attending CPP.

He will not have same student experience like SLO since it is located in a suburban area but plenty of activities will be available on and off campus.

My nephew attends CPP but commutes from home and is very happy so far with his experience at CPP although delayed due to Covid.

CPP Engineering is highly respected by the local/regional employers and their programs are ABET accredited. College choice is a specific and individual decision so I highly suggest a visit. Eat at the cafeteria, talk to some students on campus and maybe sit in a class to get an idea of fit.

Best of luck to your son and unfortunately SLO waitlists have started so denials are going to follow.

Hi My son also got in CPP. Can you share ur number . We are from Fremont.

Did your son make a choice?

I went to the open house in CPP today the professors and students mentioned that the 1st & 2nd year for ME are basically on lectures and theoretical studies, the lab classes normally starts on 3rd & 4th year. Is it true? Do anyone could share their inputs and the internship opportunities in CPP ?

If you take a look at the 4 year roadmap for ME, there are ME and required support courses that have laboratory components that a student starts taking 1st semester Freshman year. Depending upon AP credit, some of the support courses such as Physics, Chemistry, Calculus could be waived and the student can start on their major classes early. I do not see the issue stated that there is no labs until Junior year.

According to CPP’s 2018-2019 common data set, section F1, 44% of frosh live on campus. This is usually a reasonable proxy for residential students (as opposed to commuter students).

Does anyone know if there will be any upcoming virtual information sessions about CPP Engineering for families who were unable to attend yesterday’s open house?
