I am an incoming Freshman and need some info about various things. Is there a bank on campus where I can open an account? When will we get our Buzzcard?

You get your Buzzcard at FASET.

By campus, there’s a Suntrust, a Wells Fargo (Wachovia), a Bank of America, and an RBC. All four of those banks also have ATM’s at the Student Center, so I would recommend choosing one of them. The Bank of America ATM always has the longest lines, so all else being equal I would choose one of the others. The Wells Fargo branch is the most convenient from the Student Center, the RBC and Sun Trust are both very convenient from Tech Square.

Thank you so much, BanjoHitter. Your responses are always so helpful. What is RBC? Where are the Student Center and the Tech Square? East/West campus??

RBC is a bank: [RBC Bank - Home](<a href=“Cross-Border Banking for Canadians in the U.S. - RBC Bank”>http://www.rbcbankusa.com/) Technically, it’s the Royal Bank of Canada. It’s not that popular in Atlanta, but they have a branch in Tech Square.

I would encourage you to find a bank that’s both on campus and near your home. Also, you want to keep in mind that you’ll want access to your bank if you co-op or intern, and you have no idea where you’ll co-op or intern. In the US, Bank of America and Wells Fargo/Wachovia are very large and cover most of the entire US, so both are good options. If you plan to travel internationally, Bank of America has relationships with other banks to offer free ATM transactions in foreign countries.

However, this is not financial advice, and you need to consider many factors in choosing a bank or financial service provider, including things like rates, services, and fees.

The Student center is in the middle of campus. It has 4 ATMS (that I know of): Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Suntrust, and RBC). Across the street from the student center (technically off campus) is a Wells Fargo/Wachovia (they recently merged) branch.

Tech Square is East Campus (actually north and east of east campus dorms) where the College of Management is located. There you’ll find an RBC branch and a Suntrust branch (though the Suntrust branch is moving two blocks away from Tech Square). Not far from Tech Square is a Bank of America ATM.

South of campus (near East Campus dorms), you also have a Bank of America ATM and Branch. North of campus (by graduate student living) you have a Bank of America Branch and ATM.

On Howell Mill (North and West of campus where there are many restaurants and places to live), there’s a Bank of America branch and several ATMs.

Wow thanks for the advice. So would you say that wells Fargo would be the best option (if we don’t want to get stuck in long lines for bank of america)?

I really can’t give you specific financial advice. But it’s not really that big of a deal. You could always open accounts with multiple banks if you wanted. Also, if you open an account with one bank and aren’t satisfied with it, it’s very easy to move your money to another bank.
