Information regarding Academic Renewal.

Hello everyone. I stumbled across this forum while searching for some information regarding transfer. Any advice or information would be much appreciated.

So I will be applying to a bunch of UC and CSU schools for transfer this fall. But here is my situation. Right out of high school in 2005, I attended a junior college for 4 semesters. I was not a good student back than and just plain did not care. I dropped out and worked full time for 4 years. After realizing how much money I WASN'T making, I returned to school about 2 years ago. So I've maintained a 3.5 GPA and will be applying this fall. But I recently found out that I must report my past grades from the CC I attended in 2005. i was told that I need to petition for Academic Renewal to have those grades expunged. I was also told that only 24units will be removed. Today I was able to log on to my student account from the old CC and it showed that I attempted 44 units and had a 1.7GPA.

So how exactly does Academic Renewal work? Is it hard being granted the Academic Renewal? Most of the 40+ units taken at the other CC were prerequisite classes. So if I'm only able to expunge 24 units,. is it possible to only apply it to the transferable classes? Will the grades from the prerequisite classes still affect me since the grades for prerequisite classes don't affect your transfer GPA? Thanks in advance!

It is going to depend on the individual CCC, so asking here is not going to get you specific answers.

In general, what I have read for some CCCs is that they take entire quarters/semesters chunks at a time–not a pick and choose kind of situation. I have no idea if they work backwards from your most recent “bad” semester or start from the first “bad” semester and expunge until 24 (as you mention) credits have been used up. I have heard of other CCCs that have no limits on number of semesters expunged. So, the only thing I really can tell you is to make an appointment with your CCC counselor and just start the process and ask questions directly of the CCC in charge of your academic renewal!

Noted. Thanks for the info!
