Information science major?

I am from CAS and i originally thought that i might be interested in CS, but then i went to the advisor meeting yesterday, and find out the CS is perhaps a little to Math-y for me. As i am also interested in other social science stuff like econ and govt, the professor suggested me take Information Science thing as my major.

I looked it up online, and it seems to be pretty new
so how's the reputation of the program?
I read the degree requirement online, and it seems to require 17 courses? and some of them like CS2110 have other prereqs, which further lengthens the degree requirements. So is it demanding to major in Info Sci? Would it be hard to double major Info Sci with stuff like Govt or Econ?

yeah go for it :)

thanks
any other comments

You'll be taking around 32 courses to graduate. 17 is barely half of that.
