I am a high school junior planning the typical giant college visiting week during April vacation. I have been looking on various websites, and I see that both information sessions and campus tours are offered at most schools. I will be trying to see three-ish schools a day, probably two. What do each of these options entail? Is one "better" than the other in terms of getting a feel for the school? It's my initial impression from searching about this topic that the information session is like a PR session, and while the tour would be so to a lesser degree, it allows one to view the campus in its own light.

I think your impression is right; however, the information question is a good time to ask questions about admissions that aren't answered on the school's website. A question I always asked at schools that neither require nor recommend SAT IIs was what does the school do with any scores sent to them along with the SAT I?

In my opinion, you can find most of the information discussed in the info session on the schools website/princeton review/cc- or you can email the admissions office with your questions... although the info sessions are helpful, I would recommend going on a tour if your time is budgeted. You get a better feel for the campus then, and can normally ask your tour guide questions you might have.

I think that 2 or 3 schools a day is a poor decision. You will not be able to spend much time getting the "feel" of each school, will feel rushed, and all of the colleges will really blend together. I only visited like 4 schools over spring break, all on separate days, and they still didn't feel very distinct from one another because it was so packed in. Better to visit just a few of the colleges you are really interested in.
