Information sessions or campus tours?

I'm planning on going to an information session tomorrow but I'm not exactly sure what that is. What's the difference between an information session and a campus tour (besides the fact that an admissions officer leads one, student leads other)? Is there anything I should have prepared before I go to the information session? like questions?

Go to both. Information session = find out about Columbia. Tour = find your way around Columbia. It would probably reflect well on you to have a question or two, but make sure it's not something that can easily be answered by looking at their website or viewbook... make it insightful. :)

so during the information session.. do u just sit at a desk while someone speaks? or do u still get to see campus? there are no campus tours for the rest of the year, and since I live so close to the city, i thought it would reflect badly on my application if i didnt have at least an information session.

Information session is sitting in a conference room or something with maybe a few other people and them telling you about how awesome Columbia is and you interrupting every so often to ask incisive questions. Tour is actually walking around showing you the campus.

And yeah, they don't have them the rest of year 2004 but they start back up again January 22nd. I've researched all of this stuff because I'm planning on heading up there in February with my dad and my friend to visit. I really want to go there and I want to make it clear to them that I want to go there!

You are visiting during exams so it won't be a "typical" day. There might be a more serious feel to the campus. Since you live near by you might want to do the information session and tour tomorrow and also come back another time after the holidays just to to hang around and get a better feel for the campus and the students. It was also helpful to my daughter to visit some classes which you will not be able to do during exams.

At the information sessions, you are usually in a room with about 40 potential students and their parents, the four CU students will first answer question separate you guys into groups and take you and your parents on the tour.

But the number of people might be smaller now since it's late decemeber.

Go on the campus tour. The information session can be read out of any pamphlet, but the tour will let you actually see some real sites on campus and a student guide can answer questions on the go as you are inspired to ask them. Better feel for campus as you are walking with a guide and they can give some personality to it.

Info sessions could be useful if there is a portion that isn’t covered on the walking tour. For instance housing is not always covered in a campus tour and may need to be scheduled separately or they have a slideshow for it.

info session= lecture. campus tour= exercise.

Why did you post to a seven-year-old thread?
