I am looking into management information systems but I am very scared of it. It is offered as a specialization at Fisher College of Business at OSU. All I hear is that this is very tough, but I think this would be something very useful for the future. How hard is this field? I am not a "computer nerd" if you know what I mean. I think this is good because it ties business and the computer together without the science and engineering part. If someone could give me some information on what this degree entails, and what the careers look like for this.

Also, if I do not do the business school, I am thinking about doing something called the capitol program. You pick an arts and science major, which I would pick international affairs security and intelligence, and then pick a business track with 3-4 courses. One of the tracks are MIS so would this be a good idea? Just looking for some opinions on this.
Thanks!

MIS isn’t as hard as computer science but you will need to have some basic programming experience to understand some of the concepts in the upper-level courses. Overall, MIS is not for “computer nerds”. It is for business managers who manage technology. The good news is there isn’t much math involved. Most MIS programs only require calc1 and statistics. It is a good major for database or network administration. There isn’t much programming. One course in java or c++ will give you enough of a foundation in programming to make it through the program. You’ll need more business knowledge than technical knowledge. You’ll be writing a lot more papers analyzing business systems than you will be writing software for those systems.

MIS is like a computer programming degree except instead of all the math you take business management courses. It’s certainly a degree that has demand - especially in big cities.
