I recently graduated with a BS in Finance but am not liking what is available in this career field and really want to get into the growing technology industry. I would only need 10 classes at my school to obtain either IT Management or CIS. Which of these two degrees would you recommend, and do you know of anybody who has been in a similar predicament. Thanks guys!

A Computer Science degree is far superior to either. However, among the two, go for whichever focuses the most on developing in-depth high-proficiency technical/practical skills as opposed to theoretical / high-level content. You need to research and confirm how it as at your school, but I suspect Computer Information Systems will be the most technical / practical of the two.

I agree with the original poster. If you can, go for your CS degree! If you are interested in being a project manager, business analyst, or tester–then take an Intro To Software Engineering course. This class will teach you the entire software development process.

If you are going for CIS, see if any of the CS courses would count towards your degree. I would go for classes like Data Structures, Algorithms, Programming Languages, and Operating Systems. That will give you the depth that you won’t necessarily get with a CIS degree.
