can anyone give me some perspective on muhlenberg's academic program? right now, i'm interested in history and international studies with an economics minor.

I can't assist with the specific programs you mentioned. My daughter will be a freshman in the fall, and is very undecided.

But, my niece graduated about 4 years ago and was Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a degree in Poli Sci. She graduated from law school a two months ago with High Honors, and will take the bar exam next week. She had the opportunity to have some internships while at Muhlenberg and she studied abroad in England one summer

She credits the small, nurturing enviroment with her successes. She (and her friends) loved the school.....hence her cousin, (my daughter) is going. Hope this helps.

that sounds pretty good. what did she think of the overall experience, especially the classes?

Hi smile06, my niece found Muhlenberg to be an exceptional experience. Her professors were very supportive and encouraged her to travel abroad and assisted in many ways to make it a positive experience. Every step of the way she found concerned, involved staff.

Her classes were small and discussion encouraged. She said it is true that a professor would call a student if they had been skipping classes. This did not apply to my niece. As a Phi Beta Kappa graduate she is a very focused individual in addition to being a standout athlete- record breaking while she was there.

At the risk of sounding like a college brochure, Muhlenberg positions itself as a caring institution and I can say this is true, not just something for a PR piece, and it starts with the professors.

I witnessed this firsthand at a Open House last year, and watched a psychology professor interact in a casual, friendly way with a group of students. This is exactly what a small institution like Muhlenberg offers.

if you don't mind me asking, how were the financial aid packages offered? i see that in peterson's competitive colleges book for 2006, the average percentage met was 95. does this hold somewhat true?

Heard a lot of mixed stuff about the fin aid, but the package was excellent. Make sure you visit more than once and let them know youre really interested, but don't apply ED unless youre really sure. You probably need over 1300 SAts to get a really decent package.

well, i'm not planning on applying ED anywhere because i don't want to be binded like that--i want my options open. i do plan on applying EA to Fairfield University because that's the only way to recieve merit scholarships, which i hope i have a shot at.

my SAT scores arent very competitive like you posted speedo, only 560 CR, 590 M and 670 W. i'm going to retake again and try to bring it up to 600 CR 630 M and 700 W, which is going to be tough. academically, i'm at the top of my class, 4.0 unweighted, marching band, concert band member, 200+ of community service, and taking all of the difficult courses in my school, a new york city public high school. i'm hoping that they dont weigh the SAT scores as heavily as i hear some colleges do.

Muhlenberg will like your ecs but your SAT's are a little low. RD, needing a lot of aid, will probably be tough. I doubt you'll get much merit money anywhere with your SATS. If you want a decent package, you'll probably have to apply ED at a school that gives need based aid, assuming your efc is low.

I can't help you with your original question smile, but I felt the need to tell you that we seem to be applying to the same colleges. I'm applying to Muhlenberg and Fairfield EA as well and I also plan on majoring in history. What a coincidence!! Hope we both get in.

muhlenberg screw out rd canidates..

a friend of mine (went ED) had a 2.9 gpa (like an 84) no ap classes sat of 1200... and she got in

i went rd had a 3.3 gpa (like 88) AP euro + 1 college level course at of 1240 and i got weightlisted...

Muhlenberg does treat the ED applicants well. The admissions officer told me that when my s applied. She said that the ED applicants really want to go there and are often the ones who are most enthusiastic and add a lot to the community after they get there. That's important to a small school like that.
My s rec'vd a generous financial aid package and first dibs on dorm choice.
He has finished his freshman yr. and loves it there. Every prof and staff member has been caring and supportive. It's really a great place to go to school.
